Product Review: Mystic Tan Sunless Face and Body Tanning Spray

Will You Turn Orange?

Gina Pisano
I never used a self tanner before, and I was very skeptical, even a little nervous about using Mystic Tan Sunless Face and Body Tanning Spray. Browsing Sephora.com, as I frequently do, I was looking for a self tanner that wouldn't turn my skin orange. That's all I needed, seeing that I was soon going to my niece's wedding. When I saw the Mystic Tan Sunless Face and Body Tanning Spray, I was kind of surprised, because I didn't know that Mystic Tan sold products to the public. I knew that you could go to a tanning salon and get the Mystic Tan there, but when I saw that Sephora.com was selling it online, I was really intrigued and decided to try it. I ordered it a month in advance so in the event that I turned orange, my skin would have time to recover from the orangeness before the wedding.

The $38 price for a 5-ounce can of Mystic Tan Sunless Face and Body Tanning Spray was a little steep for me, because I had seen self-tanners much cheaper in stores. I figured, though, that the Mystic Tan name was popular and that if it was available at tanning salons, then it would be worth it. I put in my order, and anticipated it's delivery.

When my Mystic Tan Tanning Spray finally arrived, I couldn't wait to use it. I followed the directions of using it on clean skin and I took extra care to moisturize my elbows, knees and feet. I also noticed took care to use the Mystic Tan Sunless Face and Body Tanning Spray sparingly on my knees, elbows and ankles, because these areas of the body get darker faster, and hold the color more. I also put some Vaseline on the cuticles of my hands and feet to avoid getting the product on my cuticles.

Per the directions, I applied the Mystic Tan Sunless Face and Body Tanning Spray to my freshly washed, exfoliated skin. I held the can 6 inches from my skin and sprayed it continuously with a fast side to side motion until my skin was slightly moist. I didn't use quick spurts because I believed that this might cause the product to look streaky. I liked how the Mystic Tan looked immediately after I applied it. It looked very natural and my skin, thankfully didn't look orange or streaky. I washed my hands immediately and waited four hours before I took a shower to ensure that the spray wouldn't come off. I have to say, that the Mystic Tan Sunless Face and Body Tanning Spray had a pleasant light scent to it, and it wasn't overpowering. I also applied the mist to my face and I was so happy that my face actually looked naturally tan, and not a weird bronze color. The color looked very even and just my face a hint of glowing tan.

The only negatives I can think of from the Mystic Tan Sunless Face and Body Tanning Spray was that it got all over my towels and my bathroom. It easily came off the tile and counter top. It also came out of my towels when I washed them. This product is not inexpensive, but for special occasions, I feel it beats going to the tanning spa, especially if I just want a little color on my face or legs. I love Mystic Tan Sunless Face and Body Tanning Spray and I will purchase it again, once this can runs out. I think it does what it promises, and for me, it was worth the price.
