Product Review: Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal Roll-On

Stay Dry and Smell Great with This All-Natural Deodorant Roll-On

rosemeadow
For the past year or so I have kind of grimaced a little bit when I use my deodorant antiperspirant each day. Not because it was hurting me, but because I have been somewhat concerned over the main ingredient of aluminum. Like a vast amount of people online, I have read the urban legends being passed around about how many of today's antiperspirants and deodorants can possibly cause breast cancer. At this point, it seems as if the truth to that hypothesis is undetermined. Also there are some concerns with aluminum being absorbed into one's body and contributing to Alzheimer's disease and other health problems. I have noticed over the years that, despite not being exposed to the sun, my armpits have a few moles that just appeared. I think most of us may have a skin tag or mole in the armpit area and it makes me wonder if it is related to mainstream antiperspirants.

While shopping at my local grocery store the other day, I found Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal Roll-On. I have used a deodorant crystal some years ago and didn't particularly like it as it would sting and was rough on my skin. The price was affordable at $3.00; they also offered a pump spray product. I went with the roll-on product and was excited to get home and try it out. The ingredients are fairly simple: purified water, natural mineral salts (potassium alum), xanthan gum, phytosphingosine, and chamomile extract. Phytosphingosine is a natural chemical that has effective antibacterial properties. This is how Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal Roll-On works. By killing the bacteria in your armpits, the foul odor is prevented.

I have used several different underarm hygiene products in the past and have not been overly impressed. It seems that after I became a mother, my hormones have changed and caused my armpits to require a stronger deodorant. Therefore, I was skeptical that this Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal Roll-On was going to be effective. After using it for several days, I am happy to report that it works better than any of the others I have tried.

The Naturally Fresh Company says that their deodorant works for 24 hours, but I will be honest and say that I have not put it through that rigorous of a test. I have used it each morning and found that there has been no underarm odor whatsoever. It is hypoallergenic and the chamomile soothes your skin after shaving. I have not experienced any stinging or problems with my skin after using this deodorant.

The bottle says that it is fragrance-free, but it does have an extremely light scent, probably from the chamomile. It is not detectable once it is used and is suitable for a man or a woman. The best part about using Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal Roll-On is the relief it gives me in knowing I'm not applying aluminum to my skin each day. That, in itself, has made me want to continue using this product for years to come. For more information about Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal Roll-On, you can visit their website at www.tccd.com.

The product I personally think its trash!
I used it in school and caused me to have an odor. Horrible decision. Sometimes you have to think wisely.

I myself have used this product. It really does what it says it will do.I am concerned about one thing though, after a few weeks of using it i started to break out under my arms and itching severly. It got worse and worse and after about 1 month of it i went to the doctor,i was prescribed a topical steroid and after one day of using it the rash started going away.My pores acually closed up from the deodorant causing this rash,i am now nervous about using other deodorants.I have used all natural,Dove,Sure,Secret, and all the others and cant seem to find one that works as well as the Crystal, any sugestions?I loved this product because i didnt have to apply it every day,i did put it to the test and it lasted about 2 full days without having to reapply it.

Walter, there are (as I see it) two significant differences between the aluminum chlorohydrate and aluminium zirconium in antiperspirants versus the potassium aluminum sulfate (the "mineral salts" or "alum" contained in crystal deodorants. The former are synthesized in a lab, the latter is naturally occurring (yes, NATURALLY). The formers' objectives being to plug sweat glands, they are absorbed into the skin . . . the latter, however, has molecules that are too large to be absorbed. Essentially, not all salts are alike! Thanks for informing this "liberal arts" major . . . or not.

I found some information about this here:
    http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?board=9;action=display;threadid=3080

It appears to be safe, but I'm still doing to investigate some more.

Hmm, Walter, I was not aware of this and will research it further. Yes, I'm aware that not everything that is organic or natural is healthy. I can tell you that this product has no antiperspirant actions as I still sweat, just do not stink. So I'm not sure, but will check it out. Thanks for the comments!

By the way...the word "natural" or "organic" does not automatically mean "healthy". Most people don't understand this and marketers know it. This term is referred as "naturalistic fallacy". Sorry for the multiple comments everyone....

  • Walter9/16/2007

For the unscientific, liberal arts majors out there...makes you wonder why the company, Natural Fresh, lists the ingredients as "mineral salts (potassium alum)" instead of the full scientific name of "potassium aluminum sulfate". Guess the word "aluminum" may scare some people off. And for those of you who like math: mineral salts=potassium alum=potassium aluminum sulfate=alum.....equals aluminum content. I really am getting annoyed at companies like this trying to fool consumers.

I've been researching aluminum and it's affects on health more vigorously since I've been having health problems, but the product you're reviewing still has aluminum in it and I don't see how it is any healthier than other aluminum based products. The mineral salts in this "healthy, organic, nature-created" deodorant is potassium aluminum sulfate. It has a molecular structure, and yes, it contains aluminum. Most man made anti-perspirants have aluminum zirconium in them. Again it has aluminum in it. Did you know that aluminum zirconium is also considered a "salt"? It is. Both are bad for you, one is just marketed as being healthier and playing against people's "fears". Now my question is - is there truly a "healthy" and effexctive antiperspirant/deodorant out there man-made or not that doesn't have aluminum in it - if so - let me know.

I believe you, Jonny! I have been using this deodorant now for over a month and it is great. It even is good for acne! I will never go back to the regular versions again.
