Product Review: Nekkie Blanket - A Mother's New Best Friend

Christie Silvers
Most parents know the benefits of theie babies having naked time. Babies are born naked and will, usually, always prefer to be naked. But what is a parent to do about wetting accidents while their baby is enjoying their personal naked time? That's where the Nekkie Blankie comes in handy.

This versatile blanket was developed by a mother who was in search of something to prevent her children from wetting all over her carpets while they were having naked time. After scouring the web for some sort of alternative, and not finding anything useful, she decided to create her own product. That was when the Nekkie Blankie was born.

Before I can tell you what I thought about the Nekkie Blankie I guess I should tell you what the blanket is. The blanket is made up of three layers of material. The top layer, where your baby lays, is made of a soft fabric that quickly wicks away any wetness that your baby may produc while lying on the blanket. The middle layer is a thicker layer that absorbs the wetness; it is basically the same material that high quality cloth diapers are made from, and the third layer is a waterproof layer that keeps the wetness from seeping out and onto your carpets. The top and bottom layers are sewn together on three sides and the fourth side closes with snaps. The middle layer is held in place between the two by snaps. All three layers are great at staying in place.

When the Nekkie Blankie has been soiled you simply unsnap the end, remove the inner layer and throw it all into the washing machine. By removing the middle layer you are able to ensure that all three layers will come clean and it helps the blanket dry quicker. There is even an attached tag that lets you know how to wash and dry this wonderful blanket correctly.

When my Nekkie Blankie arrived in my mail box I was excited to see what all the fuss was about. As soon as I opened the packaged and pulled out the blanket I knew exactly what the fuss was all about. This blanket is definitely high quality and made with the greatest attention possible. The stitching is tight and the snaps are perfectly placed. The blanket is thick and so soft that you won't have any concerns about allowing your little one lay on it, day or night.

The Nekkie Blankie is advertised for use with young infants, but I don't have any infants and I wanted to try it out with my toddler. My youngest daughter is a toddler who enjoys being naked. She is also working on her potty training skills. Which means that I end up with puddles here and there. One of her major issues with potty training is that she will wet whereever she is sitting when she is engrossed in somthing. For example, she is watching one of her favorite cartoons and doesn't want to stop for a potty break. I end up cleaning up a wet spot right where she was sitting.

That's where the Nekkie Blankie comes in. She loves to sit on this blanket and it has stopped the need for me to clean wet spots from my carpet. I wish this blanket had been available when my other two daughter's were little.

The Nekkie Blankie website states that it can be used for the following circumstances:

-Nekkie Time

-Changing Pad

-Nursing mamas to sleep on

-Leaky night diapers

-Elimination Communication

-Potty Training Night Pad

-After Bath Wrap

-Nursing naked

-Postpartum pad

-Homebirthing pad

All of these circumstances can definitely benefit from using the Nekkie Blankie and I wish I would have had one of these when I was breastfeeding my girls. In addition to those, I have come up with a few other uses of my own for the Nekkie Blankie.

-As a snack blanket: especially when your child has a drink that could spill

-A seat cover after swimming: for kids of all ages

-Heavy menstrual flow at night

-A pad for older children who wet the bed

The Nekkie Blankie is perfect for any situation that may require a little extra absorbancy. You will not regret purchasing this blanket and your home, and baby, will thank you. I will even be taking this along with us to the beach in a couple of weeks. The blanket is so well made that it should be able to easily go from one child to the next.

When you order your Nekkie Blankie you are able to pick from the in-stock blankets or you can design your own. You can pick your waterproof layer color, snap colors and even have the blanket monogrammed with your child's initials. These blankets would even make great baby shower gifts for new mothers. The customer service is outstanding and so is the speed of shipping. If you are ordering a custom Nekkie Blankie then expect to wait a little bit longer since your blanket will have to be made.

In the end, the Nekkie Blankie is an excellent invention that can be beneficial to all parents, not just for parents with infants. You will never have to worry about changing your child's bed sheets because of a leaky diaper, nighttime wetting accident or just spilled water. If you are breastfeeding you won't have to worry about waking up in a puddle of milk in the middle of the night. The Nekkie Blankie is much better as a changing pad than any of those little vinyl pads that come with diaper bags; it's alos great for use on those public diaper changing stations. You can't go wrong with this wonderfully designed and made blanket!!

Sounds cool! When my child was having horrible diaper ow-ees before I started using homemade wipes (I have an article about that!) I tried to make a homemade version of this - fleece blanky to wick, absorbent cloth diapers under that, and her plastic covered mattress at the bottom. Having it all attached as one piece would be good! And the other uses they suggest are great, too!

What a great product and one I also wish that I had when my girls were small. Thankfully my 3 and 4 year olds are both potty trained and have no bedwetting issues. I also thought that you are line at the bottom that directs people to your CP is awesome!! A lot of people that are not CP's would not know that they could view more writing of your's. :)

This is great! Mine are too mobile for it, wish I'd known 9 months ago. I'd have used it for baby to nap and sleep at night on, too. My kids always had rashes from the heat diapers cause.
