Product Review: Net 10 Samsung T401G Prepaid Slide Cellphone with QWERTY Keyboard

Blair Mathis
More expensive than most of the other cellphones offered by Net 10, the Samsung T401G is a slide cellphone with a price of $79.99, which includes 300 minutes of talk time and 60 days of service (retail prices vary). Because of the slide-out thumb keyboard, this cellphone is best for individuals who do a lot of texting and want some of the other features common on modern cell phones.

Features

Arguably the most popular cellphone available from Net 10, the T401G has a number of features and a sleek design that makes it look less like an inexpensive prepaid phone and more like a trendy accessory. The first thing many people point out when they look into this cellphone is the camera-the T401G has a 1.3 megapixel digital camera that can also record videos. The Samsung has a slide-out keyboard, which goes hand and hand with the special texting rate of only $0.03 per text for this specific phone. Bluetooth connectivity is standard with the T401G, and allows users to use the cellphone hands-free via a wireless headset.

It should be obvious since the T401G has a camera, but the ability to send and receive MMS messages is available. There is a speakerphone for the convenience of sharing your conversation with the entire room. The T401G has a built-in MP3 player (headsets require special adapter), and an SD card expansion slot for adding music to the device. You can use both polyphonic and real ring tones with this cellphone.

The slider on the camera is very sturdy, and doesn't feel loose when giggling it. The buttons are a bit on the small side, so beware if you have large fingers or carpal tunnel. The overall device feels solid in the hand and very comfortable to hold. Audio quality is very good, and it detects the signal strong.

Conclusion

Net 10's T401G is an excellent phone for the price, mixing an even amount of useful features with a good price-point. Though you might find phones for a comparable (if not subsidized) price from Verizon with better features, the culmination of free minutes and service when combined with sub $100 price tag and a lower than standard texting rate, this phone is an excellent choice.

Watch out! The browser doesn't access what it says it will. If you have e-mail with Qwest it won't allow you to get in to your e-mail. It took technical assistance about 3 hours worth of calls to tell me this simple fact. In the meantime they use the minutes you purchased while they're trying to figure out the anwser. Too bad, big disappointment with the browser. Other features of the phone look good.

I can never go back to a 12 button phone after getting this phone. The qwerty key pad is great for text messaging and makes such a difference. And the camera is pretty good quality. I never would have guessed it was only 1.3 megapixels. My sister has the iphone and the quality in picture is identical if you compare pics taken by both the phones. On top of all that, using Net10, I barely spend any money on my phone because the minutes are so cheap. I use the phone for mainly texting since I am always in class, so the $20 card goes a long way. Very satisfied with my Net10 Samsung. =D

This phone is the bomb, I got it a few months ago and its the next best thing, Its cheap, reliable, and you don't have to give up your entire piggy bank to get one and use it. It covers all the basics and is great. Its not a super computer phone, but its the best all rounder i have ever owned.
