Product Review: The NOT so Magical Neti Pot Boogie Blaster
Was the Neti Pot the Answer to a Clogged Nose?
I know I know Oprah and Dr.Oz love it and give it two thumbs up, but after what I went through it's more like 2 thumbs down, here's why.
Last week my entire family was sick. The annoying cough, fever, chills, stuffy nose, and those horrible body aches. After the first two days of the cold my kids and husband were the worst I thought I was getting better so I didn't go to the doctors with them. Why spend another $15 co-payment if you don't really have to right? Wrong very bad mistake I made.
While hubby and the kids were on their medicine there was mommy with the most horrible stuffy nose. I had no problem dealing withe fever, chills or anything else. Why all of a sudden was my nose so darn clogged, what went wrong?
I wasn't really sure, but at the same I just wanted to unclog my nose. At first it was only the one side, so I started steaming with the hot water and Vicks. After doing this procedure nothing happened. Ok, so I moved on to the next step which was using a humidifier with a few drops of essential oils. Nothing work again. Ok, now I was getting very frustrated, because these home remedies usually work. I moved to the next remedy which was the Breathing strips.
Placed it on the bridge of my nose and after a few minutes I felt like it was working. I was able to breath for a few minutes out of the one nostril. Cool this was working. Wrong, as soon as I took it off all hell broke loose. The nostril was still clogged once again. Ok, well at least it wasn't both sides. I went to bed thinking everything would be ok.
Woke up the next morning at 5 with both sides clogged. I couldn't breath out of my nose for the life of me. It was so bad I started to get upset. But we all know when you cry your nose gets even more clogged. So I had to calm myself down and try the home remedies once again. This time I added more remedies. I did them all from 5 in the morning until 5 at night all I was doing was steaming, using nasal saline, Vicks, eating spices, was smelling and sniffing vinegar, black pepper, chewed menthol gum, used the hairdryer, hot towel over the face, placing my fingers and massaging the nose, used ice, stuck my head in the freezer, stuffed tissue in my nostrils, sniffed cabbage, dill pickles, and then had hubby go to the store for some Afrin. I was so horrible. Nothing like when you can't breath. I couldn't sleep at all, and this went on for 2 days.
I decided that's it I had it, time to find something to cure this problem right now, especially because my doctor wasn't in on these days. I looked online and found out about the Neti Pot.
At first I was kind of scared and leery about placing a small tea pot looking thing up my nose. But at this point of time I was considering anything to make me breath. The one quote about the Neti Pot that had me was something along the lines of "Once you blow you'll never go back." Not sure if Oprah said it or Dr. Oz, but I did read it somewhere.
Sent my hubby to the store to buy this so called magical Neti Pot. Instead of paying like $20, it was on sale for $13.00. Ok not bad. I got the NeilMed NasaFlo Neti Pot one.
How Does Neti Pot Work?
I had to fill the pot up with warm water until it reached 8 ounces. Then grab one of the mixture packets and pour it into the pot. Shake to make sure all the packets were dissolved correctly, and get into a comfortable position in front of the mirror.
While Keeping my mouth closed I had to stick this contraption up one of my nostrils. And allow the water to come out the other side. Ok, it wasn't too bad. There was no stinging or burning, and I din't drowned myself.
Was The Neti Pot Magical?
Absolutely not! After the first time it didn't do no good, so I went ahead and did it again. Nothing, yes some some stuff came out but I still had NO relief. I was so upset with the product I couldn't wait to go to the doctors. Especially after everyone I know of had the same problem as me and it worked for them.
I went to the doctors the next day. He gave me antibiotics and told me to use Sudafed PE. For the fact I have a thyroid condition and the regular Sudafed would cause me heart palpitations, which I definitely didn't need at this time.
Well I'll be damed after popping the first pill I was able to breath not great but enough to have some relief.
Why Couldn't The Neti Pot Work It's Magic?
I had such a bad sinus infection on top of a cold that the sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate wasn't enough I guess.
Would I Recommend The Neti Pot To Someone With A Slight Allergy Or Nose Congestion?
I definitely think it would work on someone with a minor problem, but not on someone with a serious issue. And as far as the other home remedies I tried that are mentioned earlier in this article, try them it could work on you. Everyone is different.
