Trimming your pet's nails can be a stressful event for both you and your pet. Clipping them too far can cause pain and a pet that is untrusting the next time you try to cut their nails. Since this chore needs to be done repeatedly, buying a device that makes the job easier is worth the investment. The Oster Gentle Paws Cordless Rotating Nail Trimmer decreases the time and pain involved in trimming your cat or dog's nails so that it can easily be done whenever necessary. The product can be purchased for $20 from amazon.com.

While the trimmer was designed for both cats and dogs, I only have experience using it on my two dogs. The dogs took a few minutes to adjust to the sound and strange feeling on their paws, but once they realized the device was not going to hurt them they allowed me to use it on their nails. I still have to hold them tightly but they do not fight to get away as much as they used to when I used clippers. I love that I can keep their nails short enough to prevent them from scratching me and the furniture without having to battle with them.

The trimmer rotates quickly to get the job done fast. It has two speeds so you can find which one you are most comfortable using. Starting out slow allows the animal to get used to the noise at a lower volume. There is a safety guard that holds the nail in place so that only the tip gets filed. This means you will be less likely to get close to the quick, which is the part that bleeds hurts. It also prevents long hair from getting tangled in the trimmer. The product comes with a course stone, fine band, and two coarse bands. I use the coarse band first and then the fine one to get a smooth finish on their nails. This makes them look better and be less scratchy than they were before.

So far the unit has proven to be sturdy and the bands last well. I have been using this product on both of my dogs about once a month for a year now and have had no problems. My dogs seem to prefer this method to getting their nails clipped because we have not yet had an incident of making them bleed. Keep in mind you should check your progress as you go to make sure you have not filed too far.
