Product Review of Philosophy Brand Facial Cleanser, Purity Made Simple

Purity Made Simple, a One Step Facial

Erin Strawn
I purchased a 4oz bottle of the one-step facial cleanser called Purity Made Simple by Philosophy. The cleanser was part of a kit called School Book, a four piece set including a lip balm, anti acne moisturizer, and invisible makeup.

The product directions recommend day and night cleansing with the Purity Made Simple one-step facial for three weeks to see improvement in the skin. This is considered a one step facial because it will remove makeup, deeply clean the skin, lightly moisturize, and enhance the tone of the skin.

Also the Purity Made Simple cleanser is supposed to eliminate build-up of makeup and heavy moisturizers and when used with the other philosophy products create what they call makeup optional skin.

I have been using the Philosophy cleanser Purity Made Simple for 6 weeks day and night, the directions say to use a small amount of the cleanser and to massage into the skin for 30-60 seconds; it also says not to scrub the skin but to massage it into the skin at a leisurely pace.

I take a small amount as about a dime to nickel sized amount on the tips of my fingers, and at first I was massaging it in for 60 seconds on my entire face. I have more sensitive skin on my cheeks than the rest of my face and got dry skin on them as a result, to modify my results I cleans my sensitive skin last and don't leave it on longer than 30 seconds.

Something to note about the cleanser is that it isn't soapy; the cleanser doesn't foam at all. This is great for me because it doesn't leave the skin feeling dry or tight; your skin feels clean and soft, it is really refreshing.

There is a bunch of flowery inspirational stuff written on the package, I don't really care about the message of the product, however I did like the results. I am not a person who wears makeup, I have sensitive skin and makeup has irritated my skin since I was a teenager and many cleansers irritate my skin as much as makeup.

This cleanser, once I figured out the right balance of exposure to the skin versus the pressure of application, is great on my skin. A lot of people reviewing the product said that they were impressed with the scent, the scent to me is very mild and herbal, it is so light that it isn't particularly noticeable; a light scent is great for sensitive skin.

I have had less break outs on my trouble area (my chin) and my skin does look overall better, it looks radiant and natural, I really like the way my skin looks. I will continue to use the cleanser, it is better for my skin than any other cleanser I have tried.

Many people complain about the price (an 8oz bottle costs about $20), I think its well worth the price, not only for the results but because the cleanser really lasts, my 4oz bottle lasted two whole months using it twice daily every day, at that rate an 8oz bottle could last four months, which would work out to about $5 a month.

I would recommend this cleanser to anyone, especially people with trouble or sensitive skin, it works great, lasts a long time, and is easy to use. This product is available at high end retail stores and the internet, philosophy has a website where you can buy directly from the company.
