Product Review: Playful Patterns by Discovery Toys

About the product:
Playful Patterns by Discovery Toys is a design activity. It comes with 132 colorful foam shapes, such as circles, diamonds, rectangles and more, 20 cards with designs on the front and back, and instructions. The child must figure out how to make the shapes fit properly onto the design cards. The cards are designed in a sequence from easy to difficult so this game will grow with your child. It also comes with a play card with suggestions on other ways to play with the shapes.
The company recommends this game for children four years old and older because of the small parts. Playful Patterns sells for $19.99.

Why I bought this product:
I bought this toy when my daughter was three years old because it is an open-ended toy which encourages creativity, pre-math skills and fun. She loves it!

The positives about this product:
There are so many positive qualities about the Playful Patterns Design activity! It encourages children to uses their thinking skills, creativity and fine motor skills. This game also helps young children develop pre-reading and pre-math skills, along with learning shapes, fractions and more. This product is made very well. The card are sturdy and are laminated so they will not easily rip and tear. Also since there are easy, medium and difficult game cards, the game will grow with your child.

The Negative about this product:
The only negative thing I can find about this product is the foam shapes are made to be "slip proof" but this is not the case. The shapes move and slip pretty easily which can be frustrating to the child when he or she is trying to make a design.

I would highly recommend this product to other parents. This game provides hours of fun and creativity. I love how this game makes children have to think and use their brain since so many other games on the market do not. My daughter loves this games and asks to play it all the time. This is a must have for children preschool age and older!
