I am not very familiar with the PlayStation gaming system, so researching the system and the games over the past few months became a hobby for me. I didn't want to purchase games for our son that was not appropriate or too violent. I went to a local game store to do some research and found a very helpful staff that patiently answered all of my questions and didn't look at me like I had three heads because I was not familiar with PlayStation 2 or any of the games.
The first thing the cashier said I needed to take into consideration when trying to purchase a game were my child's likes and dislikes. The first thing that popped into my head was that he loves anything that has to do with music. I was then led to the section that had games like Dance Dance Revolution, American Idol, and High School Musical "Sing It". I immediately chose the High School Musical "Sing It" and was very excited. I knew that this game would be a huge success in our house. What appealed to me first about the game was that the Logitech microphone was included with the game, so I didn't have to search elsewhere for one of those. The price of the game was around $50.00, so I didn't mind paying that considering some other games I had found were almost that much and did not have any additional accessories with them.
All of the songs from the original High School Musical movie are included on the game. All of the songs from High School Musical 2 are also included with the game, but they have to be unlocked. It took us a few days to figure out why we couldn't find the High School Musical 2 songs. Once my son reached certain scores with songs, he was given the option to unlock the songs from the second movie.
The High School Musical "Sing It" game features a unique duet karaoke system where two people can perform together. Troy and Gabriella cannabis can spend hours singing together! Including bonus songs, there are over 30 songs to choose from on this game which is a lot to do for young ones. My son spent three hours today doing nothing but singing and unlocking his favorite songs from both movies.
Other features of the "Sing It" game include Quick Play, where you pick a song, character and outfit and start singing. The Story Mode features story sections from the original High School Musical along with singing. In Party Mode, you can have a karaoke contest with up to seven of your friends and have a contest that determines who sings the best.
Within each song you sing, the lyrics are made available and they are lit up when it is time to sing each word. The overall score is included in the right hand corner so you always know how good or how bad you are doing. The better you sing the more bonuses you earn. There is also a current pitch and desired pitch meter that appears on the screen. The current pitch shows where your voice is singing and the desired pitch shows where your pitch should be. The performance meter determines your popularity and how well you are singing. You will receive one star, two stars or three stars. You are also graded from A+ to C on your performances. Along with instructions and the game a song lyrics book is included for all the songs from both movies.
I think this is a great game for young kids that will keep them entertained for hours. This is a game I am sure I will not ever regret buying and I recommend it highly to other moms who are looking for suitable, family-friendly PlayStation 2 games for their children.
