When it comes to pressure cooking the name Presto is a name everybody knows. The Presto 307912 6-quart stainless steel pressure cooker is a new addition in Prestos' pressure cooker line. It is very affordable (only $50 in most stores) but goes far beyond expectation. Most people believe that a good pressure cooker has to be expensive and that buying cheaper ones is a sure invitation to disaster. That, my friend, is not true for this pressure cooker.
There is nothing cheap about the Presto 307912 6-quart stainless steel pressure cooker. It is made with thick stainless steel which is very fast to heat and it holds the heat very well. It comes with sturdy handle. Even though the handles are made of plastic but it is high quality plastic and very strong.
There's a heavy-duty lid that securely locks down when you cook and also a pop-up pressure indicator. Explosion from overpressure is not possible because it has a plug that will release the steam when the pressure is becoming too big. Another safety feature is that you cannot open it when it is pressurized. If you are afraid about hot steam burning your face when you open the top then I have to say that it's just not going to happen with this pressure cooker.
So does that mean using a pressure cooker is 100% safe?
Not really. Just like any other kitchen tools (knife, oven, microwave, etc) a pressure cooker is only safe when you're using common sense and carefulness. For example, opening the cap while the steam is still blowing is very dangerous. Follow the safety directions in the manual and you will be fine.
Conclusion
For a small family (4-5 person) a 6-quart pressure cooker is just the right size. If you have a big one, however, you should definitely get a bigger 8-quart Presto pressure cooker. Your family's going to love you more for it. And if you don't already have a pressure-cooking recipe book you don't need to worry since this one comes with an excellent booklet containing more than 65 tasty recipes. Whether you want to make stews, pot roasts, soup or even dessert this booklet has them all.
