Once my baby started pulling herself up to standing, I hated when she would pull on the entertainment center. The edges of the entertainment center are real hard and the corners pointy. When standing, her head was right at the point where she could really hurt it by hitting the edge. We bought the Prince Lionheart 4 Pack Table Edge Guard and now I feel much better about her playing by the entertainment center.
The Prince Lionheart 4 Pack Table Edge Guard is a soft foam that can be cut to length to fit around any furniture. It uses 3M strips to hold on to the furniture. 3M products are removable, but are not easy enough for a child to remove. The product also comes with 4 corner guards to protect children from this dangerous spot. It was very easy to install the edge guard onto my entertainment center. All it requires is placing some 3M strips (included) along the length of the foam, and then sticking it on. I had to pull it up to rearrange once or twice and had no trouble doing that.
Once I had it in place, I pushed it down firmly to ensure it would stick. Now, my baby still pulls up on the furniture but the foam actually gives her an extra thing to grip so she doesn't fall down as easily. She's pulled on this plenty since we installed it and it has yet to budge an inch. I'm confident it will hold up for the length of time we need it. Every-so-often, my baby does bang her head against the foam when she is trying to get up or down, but it doesn't bother her one bit. The cushion this provides is plenty to make sure she's not injured by the furniture. She also bites on it sometimes, as she bites on everything, and there are no signs of wear or tear on the foam so far. It seems to be a very strong and sturdy product.
Some reviewers say it ruined their furniture. Time will tell if it causes any damage but I really don't see why it would. All 3M products I've used do manage to be removed with no damage, so I am hopeful this will be the same. I imagine you just have to be careful about what type of furniture you use this on. Wood or glass may not be ideal for this. We have a cheaper entertainment center with a slippery surface, which is why I think there should be no damage. I'm more concerned about my baby's head than my furniture though! I've read reviews of other products stating they pull off too easily - so would you rather something your baby could pull right off? Or something that will stay put but might be a little hard to get off? I choose the latter.
The only thing I wish is that I would have looked online and found a black version of this. The brown is fine, if you have brown furniture, but after installing I thought it stood out a lot. Now that it's been in place for a few months I don't even notice it, but initially it really stood out to me and I questioned removing it. I realize now that most people don't even pay attention to it, so for the short time we will be using it I'm not worried about it. You can see in the attached picture that it isn't even that noticeable on the furniture. If you are looking for a quick and cheap way to protect your baby from sharp edges and corners, the Prince Lionheart 4 Pack Table Edge Guard is a great option.
