Quaker Weight Control oatmeal is advertised as a way to lose weight because you supposedly stay full for longer if you eat it compared to other kinds of oatmeal. This oatmeal not only has more protein and more calories per packet to keep you full longer, but it also has artificial sweeteners in it to make it healthier. I hadn't considered that all of this might affect the taste compared to their other flavors of oatmeal. However, it does...
I love the banana oatmeal that Quaker includes in the fruit and cream variety box of oatmeal. However, that variety box only has two packets of the banana flavor. I e-mailed Quaker a few times to comment that they needed to offer the banana in a box alone like they do some of their other flavors. They never did of course. When I saw the advertisement for the banana bread flavored oatmeal, I was thrilled. I believed that I would like it since there was another brand about ten years ago that carried a banana bread flavor of oatmeal that I loved. However, that one has long since been discontinued. After all those years, I finally had another choice of banana oatmeal.
I bought the banana bread Quaker Weight Control oatmeal when it was shelved at my local supermarket. This oatmeal seems to need more water than other flavors of Quaker oatmeal. Otherwise, it's really thick. My happiness quickly turned to dismay after I tasted it. Even after getting the consistency right, it still didn't taste good.
I haven't tried the other flavors, but the Weight Control oatmeal also comes in cinnamon and maple & brown sugar. I do not recommend the banana bread flavor, it really isn't good. And since this flavor isn't good, the other flavors of the Weight Control oatmeal probably aren't good either. I am very disappointed in this product. I expect more from the Quaker company as they make some very good products. And since some of them aren't available locally, such as their Red Eye Gravy & Ham grits, I order them off the internet. Too bad they don't offer in a box by itself the good banana oatmeal that they only sell in the fruit and cream variety box.
