Available for purchase in a few different sizes of plastic jars, mine is the 2 lb. size with a pump dispenser. The product it a salmon color, and is extremely thick. The scent is very difficult to describe...the best description I can think of is to call it a "heavy" scent. This smells pleasant, without being overbearing, and does make me think of the word "cholesterol".
In the colder months when my hair is dry, I try to use this about once every couple of weeks. My hair is fine and thinnish, so your requirements may vary. To use, I make sure my hair has no product in it either by washing it, or applying this conditioning treatment first thing in the morning. My hair needs to be damp, so once that's done I dispense a very large dollop of the treatment into the palm of my hand. (It's imperative you really slather this on to make sure you receive the full benefit). I rub the conditioner between my palms and distribute throughout my hair, making sure to pull the conditioner all the way out to the ends. To ensure even distribution, I will then use a wide-toothed comb to comb may hair.
Once distribution is complete, I cover my hair with plastic. I sometimes use very inexpensive plastic caps one can get at the drugstore, hotel shower caps, or in a pinch, kitchen plastic wrap. The idea is to make sure you've created a decent seal so any heat contained inside the plastic will help the conditioner penetrate the hair shaft. I'll then use my blowdryer to add heat by holding it about 12" from my head, and blowing the very warm air all around the outside of the plastic.
The directions say to leave this on approximately 10 minutes. I generally leave this product on much longer. For example, I'll get everything all set up then leave the plastic on for an hour or more while I clean the house, read, or surf the Internet.
Once you've decided the conditioning treatment is done, the last thing you'll need to do is rinse well. Because this product is so very thick, plan on this step taking a while. Although my hair is short, it still takes a good 5 minutes to ensure I've removed all of the product.
Once the product is removed, I towel-dry my hair and comb it out. It's always easy to comb out after this treatment. The best part is, even though this product is very thick and very moisturizing, I do not have any problems with it leaving my hair a greasy mess. My hair is very soft, conditioned exceptionally well, and is ready for styling, should I so wish.
When the weather is very warm, I have a tendency to have an oily scalp. If the ends of my hair are needing some attention due to dryness, I will follow the directions above, but only apply this product to the ends of my hair.
All in all, this product leaves my hair well-conditioned, very soft, and healthy. Look closely, and you might even see a bit of extra shine.
Finally, I'd like to add that I find this product to be unisex. Because there is no girly scent, men with a bit longer hair should benefit from this product as well. Covering your hair in plastic is not vital to the product's success, so you needn't cover your hair with plastic, although I've found extra benefits to doing so.
This product is very inexpensive, and can be found at many drugstores, big box stores, as well as several beauty supply outlets.
I definitely recommend Queen Helene Suepr Cholesterol Hair Conditioning Cream.
