Product Review: Razer Goliathus Control Edition Mouse Mat

Jeff Gedgaud

The Razer Goliathus is a heavily textured cloth mouse mat with a foam backing and anti-fray stitching but it's the heavy texture that makes for better control while gaming.

The Razer Goliathus is a heavily textured cloth mouse mat that includes several features that make it a worthwhile gaming mouse mat but also makes a great everyday pad for better mouse control. The Control edition of the Goliathus is heavily textured so the optical sensor has better control over the cursor movement onscreen as well as other movement like in game aiming.

The Razer Goliathus costs about $35 and simply comes with the mouse mat and a certificate of authenticity but the mat does come in four sizes at varying prices. The heavy weave of the mat contributes to the better control of your mouse but a speed version is available with a smoother surface.

The tight weave of the cloth on top is nice for good control but it's the heavy texture that contributes to the better control because the optical signal bounces better from this heavy texture. The Goliathus also comes with a foam rubber backing to keep the mouse mat in place while gaming or general use but it's the stitching that makes it unique.

The Goliathus comes with a threaded stitching all around the circumference of the mouse mat for protection of the edges so the mouse mat does not fray or split. The stitching is some type of overlock stitch that is about an eighth of an inch wide around the whole mouse mat.

The large Razer logo is in the upper right corner of the otherwise black mat while the words Razer and Goliathus are in the bottom right corner of the mat. The heavy texture looks good and has a smooth feel when using a mouse on the mats surface but not as smooth as other mats I have used from Razer.

The foam rubber backing keeps the mouse mat in place even during intense gaming and that is where the mat really makes its features known. I have used the mat a lot over the last few months in gaming and found it worked very well to keep a smooth action of my cursor and gaming.

The control you get is great and I have had no problems with the mouse either in control or precision as well as lint in the sensor area. A few times with other cloth mouse mats I have gotten lint stuck in the sensor area and this has not been a problem with the Goliathus so far.

What more can be said about a mouse mat, it works and it works well for gaming and general computer use like browsing or even painting on your computer. A good mouse mat or mouse pad makes all the difference when using a mouse and can really make work that much better.

I highly recommend the Razer Goliathus for a great mouse mat and the Control edition is great for precision mouse use like gaming or whenever more precision is needed.
