Product Review: Razor Guard Razor Saver Solution

Robert Borden
Throughout the years, I've given various razors a try. I've always found that electric razors can irritate my skin so recently I've been sticking with disposable razors. Currently, I use a Gillette Fusion razor, and while I love the close shave it gives me, I hate how much the replacement blades cost. A four-pack of Fusion razor blades can cost anywhere from $10-$13. I've always just resigned myself to the fact that these blades were one of life's inevitable expenses. But then my boyfriend got some Razor Guard solution and told me to give it a try.

By storing your razor blade in the Razor Guard solution, instead of the open air, it is supposed to extend the life of the blade and keep it sharper for longer. After putting a fresh blade on my Fusion razor, I shaved as normal and rinsed the blade as usual when I was finished. Then I put my razor in the pouch of Razor Guard solution (which was self-adhesive and stuck to the mirror which was convenient) so that the blade was completely submerged in the solution.

A few days later, I needed to shave so I removed my razor from the Razor Guard solution. I noticed that the solution had caused the rubber lubricating strip to peel away from the blade, which was a little strange. My boyfriend told me this was normal and the lubricating strip was unnecessary. I went ahead and shaved, and while it felt almost normal, I did feel like I missed the added comfort of the lubricating strip that the Razor Guard solution had removed.

The real point of the Razor Guard solution is to allow you to replace your razor blade less often, but I have to say, it didn't work for me. After 4 shaves, the razor blade was dull and nicking my skin, which is what would have happened if I didn't use the Razor Guard. Plus, as I stated before, my shave was less comfortable without the lubricating strip. In the end, I didn't think the Razor Guard solution performed very well and would not use it again in the future. However, my boyfriend swears by the product and insists it gives him a closer shave while extending the life of his razor. If you are interested in trying the Razor Guard solution at your house, you can order a bottle from the Razor Guard website for $19.95 by visiting http://www.razorguard.com

  • Razor Guard solution costs $19.95 for a starter kit.
  • Razor Guard could cause the lubricatin strip on your razor to peel off.
  • In the end, I preferred storing my razor without the Razor Guard solution.
Razor Guard is naturally antibacterial, so you can store more than one razor in the same solution with no worries.

The reason you did not realize the full benefits of RazorGuard is that there are two formulas, one specifically designed for the Fusion (not availabale in a pouch) and the original formula for all other blades. I use RazorGuard 5 for the Fusion and get approximately 30-40 great shaves from each blade!
