Product Review -- Revlon Brow Fantasy

Having natural blonde hair is a good thing-many people are envious of blondes, wanting to dye their hair blonde. After all, the saying goes "blondes have more fun," right? Well, let me tell you-that isn't always the case. Sure, I like my blonde hair most of the time, but you know what I don't like? My blonde eyebrows.

Yes, that's right-I hate my blonde eyebrows. You probably haven't thought about it before, but most people with light blonde hair also have light blonde eyebrows. In fact, many blondes have eyebrows that are so light in color as to be almost unnoticeable. This is not a good thing. People tend to look kind of strange without eyebrows.

So, the eyebrow pencil can be a blonde's best friend. It can sometimes be difficult to find a brand that offers a blonde pencil shade (many offer only various shades of brown and black), but I have found that the Hazel shade in the Rimmel line is a good choice. Not too light, not too dark. Plus, the Rimmel eyebrow pencil has a built-in eyebrow brush on the cap, which comes in handy. At around $2 to $3 in price, the Rimmel pencil is quite a deal.

But recently I found something new to try. CVS was running a promotion on their Revlon products, and I had a good coupon, so I decided to try the Revlon Brow Fantasy Pencil. It cost over $7, but with the coupon and the sale it ended up being around the same price as my usual Rimmel eyebrow pencil. And what really intrigued me was the fact that the Revlon product actually came in dark blonde!

The Revlon Brow Fantasy is different from other eyebrow pencils. Half of it is a defining pencil, similar to most other eyebrow pencils-but the other half is a brush-on sheer tint gel that sets the eyebrows in place. The gel wand is much like a mascara wand, and the gel itself is tinted a blondish shade. This is a two-step product-first, you use the pencil to fill in and define the eyebrows, then you use the wand to shape and set the eyebrows.

I had never used a brow gel before, so I was curious as to what it would do. I ended up being very pleasantly surprised! The pencil half of the Revlon Brow Fantasy wasn't all that special, but the brow gel really amazed me. Why? Well, the gel made my eyebrows seem more prominent and thicker-quite a feat, considering that, in their natural state, my eyebrows are a very thin, faint blonde. The gel also kept my eyebrows looking that way all day long-I didn't have to reapply eyebrow pencil in the middle of the day!

I have to say that this product probably is not the best value for most people. The pencil half is quite short and won't last for too many sharpenings, and the brow gel half isn't exactly bursting with gel. So I would say that unless you need an eyebrow pencil in a blonde shade, you may want to skip this product-your wallet would thank you, and you would do just as well by purchasing a regular eyebrow pencil (along with a tube of brow gel, if desired). But, the Revlon Brow Fantasy does come in brunette, dark brown, and black, so if you have darker brows you can still use this product.

But for me, the Revlon Brow Fantasy has a permanent place in my makeup drawer. My light blonde eyebrows have needed a product like this, and I feel lucky to have finally found a product that will help them. So, I'm going to continue to buy it. Hopefully I will catch another sale before I run out, but if not, I would be willing to pay full price for the Revlon Brow Fantasy pencil.

I agree that this is a good product but I have one big complaint with it. The cap will not stay on, and this has led to the pencil getting all over my makeup bag. It's quite annoying. I don't know why Revlon can't redesign the cap so that it will actually stay on the pencil. I have bought the pencil twice and it's happened both times.
