Revlon Delivers on It's Promise

S. OBrien
ColorStay Overtime is a lipcolor from Revlon. It's an all day color, combined with a moisturizing gloss. One side of the tube contains the color, while the other side contains a moisturizing formula with chamomile and soy extract. The lipcolor is offered in 28 shades. Revlon promises up to 16 hours of color and shine without touch-ups. Here's the scoop on how it really performs.

First, let's talk about price. I found this lipcolor in the supermarket and picked it up for about $12. A quick search online shows that I probably paid too much. Stores like CVS and Target are selling it for under $10 and Amazon has it at under $5. Although I may not have got the best deal, I do think the lipcolor is worth what I paid.

When I got home, I read the directions for applying the lipcolor. Revlon tells you to apply the color first, let it dry completely, then apply the moisturizer. Ok, so step one - I applied the color. It was very true to the color in the tube. I've had lipcolors that were not what I expected in the past, but this one was spot on. I let the color dry and, I have to say, it felt a little too dry. On to the moisturizer. This provided instant relief from the dryness. It took a couple dips in the tube to get enough gloss to cover my lips but the result was gorgeous.

Now for that 16 hour promise. I have to admit, I wasn't expecting much. I've had long-wearing lipcolor in the past that just didn't live up to the hype. The first clue that Revlon's Overtime was going to be different came during my morning commute. After a sip of my usual morning coffee, I noticed there were no lips on my cup. The color had stayed where it belongs, on my lips.

I kept an eye on it throughout my workday, which included lots of talking, drinking from water glasses, sipping from straws, and lunch. By the time I left, after a 9 hour shift, the color was still as vibrant as when I had first applied it. The only thing missing was the gloss. My lips still felt moisturized, but the shine was nearly gone.

I left the lipcolor on well into the evening, past dinner, kisses goodnight, and talking with the family. By the time I was ready to wash it off before bed, the color was still going strong. One of my pet peeves about waterproof and long wearing cosmetics is that they can be irritatingly impossible to wash off. Not true with ColorStay Overtime. Despite it's tenacity, when I wanted it gone, it came off easily.

The second part of the story is the moisturizer. While the glossiness didn't last, the moisturizing affects definitely did. In fact, after a few days of use, my lips felt softer and smoother than they had in ages.

When all is said and done, Revlon ColorStay Overtime really delivers on most of its promises. Moisturized lips? Yes. All day color? Yes. All day shine? Not so much, but nothing a touch-up won't fix.
