Product Review: Rimmel Lycra Wear - Posh Trash Fingernail Polish

Ada Noll
I enjoy the hunt of new cosmetics. One of my latest finds was Rimmel Lycra Wear Nail Polish. I was excited to see such a great array of shades. With great names like Frisky Clover and Modern Art I was sold. I was happy to find such an innovative and original brand that inexpensive and accessible.

The Allure

While the funky names were a selling point, I was immediately drawn in by the different shades. There were blue and orange colors sitting by the normal reds and pinks. I found a shiny dirty pink-lavender color named, "Posh Trash." I will admit that the name was partly responsible for my purchase.

Easy to Apply and Quick to Dry

Rimmel Lycra Wear Nail Polish is easy to apply. With one coat you really do have shiny, bursting-with-color nails. I was so happy with the quick results and loved the way the color looked on my nails.

This nail polish is also quick drying. It only takes a short minute or two to set.

Falling Short

On the back of the nail polish bottle, Rimmel asserts, "Up to five days super durable polish for nails. Chip resistant."

Rimmel's claim is not true. I did my nails before I went to bed, and they were dry and looking pretty when I went to sleep.

Sadly, I woke up to one chipped nail. I didn't think much about it and did a touch up that was quick and effective. However, throughout the day the color kept chipping off. By the time I got home that evening, I didn't have one nail that was completely polished. All of my fingernails were in various stages of manicure mess; two fingernails were completely void of polish. It looked like I had not had a manicure in weeks, when in reality I had given myself one the previous night.

My Seal of Disapproval

Rimmel Lycra Wear Nail Polish is available in many different shades. There are both "everyday normal" colors and crazier out-on-the-town shades.

This polish was such a huge disappointment. The nail polish shades and names were great, and I was really looking forward to using this product. Unfortunately this inexpensive Rimmel nail polish ended up looking and acting cheap.

You can find Rimmel Lycra Wear Nail Polish at your local department store for $3.99 a bottle. My best advice would be to find it on clearance and purchase it at a store that honors cosmetic returns.

I have such bad luck with nail polish. Thanks for the heads up on this. I do like the name, though.

Thanks for the honest review. It's too bad that it turned out that the polish was a disappointment. I will email this to a couple make-up hounds.
