The L-Shaped Glass Desk delivers the modern design of Target Room Essentials without the headaches and frustration that can come with some mass produced, lower-end furniture items.
Assembly: The L-Shaped Glass Desk is very easy to put together. The only item needed for assembly that is not included in the box is a simple Philips head screwdriver. The large pieces are clearly labeled with removable stickers, and the smaller, loose pieces are individually bagged for easy sorting. Assembly takes only fifteen to thirty minutes with two people.
Quality: The L-Shaped Glass Desk offers scratch resistant glass tops. The construction of the metallic components is relatively sound, with relatively well matched pre-drilled holes-a few of the components don't line up perfectly, but the gaps are unnoticeable to the naked eye. The desk is pretty sturdy on both respective ends, but the bend in the "L" is a little wobbly, it could use some extra support. The desk has nice adjustable feet for easy leveling in case of a crooked floor. Additionally, rather than felt or rubber cushions for the glass top, the desk uses suction cups to hold the glass in place. Almost all of the bases have been covered when it comes to quality.
Value: As of March 26th, 2009, the desk retails at $89.99 and is available both in stores and online. It's a modest price for the decent quality provided. At 55.25 inches long in each direction, it offers a lot of space for computer components, paperwork, or anything else you need to store. While the desk does not have drawers, the open-base design allows for small file cabinets or other storage items to fit beneath the desk if necessary. Overall, the desk is a great value. Its stability and aesthetic appeal are easily that of desks twice the price.
Overall, the desk deserves a 9 out of 10, and is recommended for anybody in need of a modern-looking desk at an affordable price. The only reason I hesitate to award a perfect 10 out of 10 is the structural instability at the L-bend. Minor imperfections aside, the Room Essentials L-Shaped Glass Desk is a great buy.
