Russell Stover Private Reserve chocolates come in a 4.5 ounce gold package that looks like a pretty little gift bag. The flavor that I selected was the Triple Chocolate Mousse with 70% Cacao dark and white chocolate. The serving size is 3 pieces (38 grams) and each container has approximately 3 ½ servings. A serving contains 220 calories, 17 grams of fat, 12 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 15 mg Sodium (1% of the RDA), 19 grams carbohydrates, 2 grams of dietary fiber (who knew?), 15 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein. It also has 4% of the RDA of Calcium and Iron.
The wrappers are pretty, gold and purple, and fortunately easy to open. There's nothing worse when you really want a chocolate than a package that won't tear! The top layer is the dark chocolate. It's imprinted with Russell Stover twice, first in block letters and underneath in signature script. The middle layer is the chocolate mousse and the bottom layer is white chocolate. It's a very attractive presentation.
The chocolates taste quite delicious. The dark chocolate is deep, rich and silky to the tongue. The mousse is creamy and very chocolately as well, although I wish it wasn't such a thin layer. The white chocolate also has a good texture, but frankly I find white chocolate to be a little bit bland. It does play nicely with the darker chocolate though. Altogether I would have to give a thumbs up to these chocolates. They're a great little chocolate treat and because they're individually packaged it's easier to control portion size.
I highly recommend these chocolates to any chocolate lover. They're also ideal for those who enjoy dark, white, and milk chocolate because they combine all of these flavors in one chocolate confection. They are quite affordable at only $2.50 per bag. Because they're so rich and are packaged into small little squares you can indulge your passion for chocolate without overindulging. Life's too short to not enjoy a little bit of chocolate every day!
