Product Review: Swiffer Wet Jet Vs. Clorox Ready Mop

Antoinette McGowan
There are several mops on the market now that automatically dispense cleaning solution and use disposable pads. The two that will be looked at are the Swiffer Wet Jet and the Clorox Ready Mop. I first got a Swiffer Wet Jet but unfortunately during a move I lost it and had to go get another mop. However, I came across the Clorox Ready Mop and seen that it was $3.00 cheaper than the Swiffer Wet Jet at Wal-Mart. Being so close to the holidays I figured that I could really do to save $3.00. Well let's just say that sometimes saving money is not always the best thing.

Assembly:

When I got the Swiffer Wet Jet it needed to be assembled. The instructions were clear and I had it assembled within about 3-5 minutes. In addition to being quick to assemble it did not take any strength to assemble. The cleaning solution had a spill proof top that when placed into the Wet Jet would allow the solution to be dispensed. The cleaning pads attached easily to the bottom of the Wet Jet by just slapping it on there. Batteries were required but not included in the kit.

When I got the Clorox Ready Mop it also needed to be assembled. The instructions for me were not exactly clear as it used some not so clear pictures to show how to assemble it. No actual written directions were included. I spent 10 minutes trying to assemble this mop as the handle would not lock into place together and it took more strength then I had to shove them into each other. The cleaning solution required that the cap be removed and the dispensing hose be inserted down into the solution. For me this was a down fall as I ran the risk of spilling it before I got the dispensing hose's cap screwed onto the solution. The cleaning pads required that you place them down and then the mop on top of them then the four wings be flipped up and shoved into four individual holes. No batteries were required for this product.

Function:

The Swiffer Wet Jet was light weight and easy to maneuver around the floor. The scratch pad on the side is easy to use by just flipping the mop part up onto its side with your foot. Very little exertion is needed to mop a floor using this product. Even stuck on dried food came off with very little effort. The cleaning pads are very thick and I was able to mop a heavily soiled kitchen floor at least twice before having to throw the pad away. With this product I never put off mopping my floors as it was so quick and easy to do.

The Clorox Ready Mop on the other hand while light weight still posed some issues for me to use. The cleaning pads are very thin and even for my small kitchen too me 3 cleaning pads and still my floors look dirty. Dried on dirt or food does not come up with this product. The part of the dispensing hose that sprays out the cleaning solution kept popping off the handle and I would have to stop and reconnect it. The overall function is so poor I really hate and dread mopping my kitchen or bathrooms with this mop.

I bought the Clorox Ready Mop, and I am so disappointed. I agree, the pads don't absorb, it feels more like I'm pushing the dirt around. It took 3 pads to clean my little pantry. I'm gunna try the Swiffer mop and see if it's any better, wish me luck

My mom has the swiffer mop and uses it with ease.I decided to save the extra $5.00 difference and buy the clorox ready mop.I was extremely disappointed! It was not easily assembled. The solution works with a hand pump type of mechanism, and if you move the mop w/o intent of use,the solution leaks out!The pads do not absorb and they don't pick up loose dirt either. The swiffer has envelope type slots to grab loose particles!I used 1/2 the bottle of solution on my very small kitchen!I hate the holes you have to push the pad into! The pad rips away and is difficult to keep on after that!NO SCRUBBING tough spots! The pad cannot hold up to it!BOTTOM LINE....SPEND THE EXTRA $5.00 FOR THE SWIFFER!!!

I'd love to comment, but I haven't been able to figure out how to put it together yet. Maybe I should have paid double the price for a Swiffer.

Actually, depitydawg, check snopes.com... that is just a myth. There is no danger to pets or kids.

It's not true about Swiffer being any more harmful to pets than any other normal cleaner. Check out the Snopes website.

    Depitydawg,

thank you for sharing that information with everyone. for those who have pets in their homes this is important to know. As I do not have pets in my home anymore I did not think to even check to see if it contained anything harmful to pets.

swiffer has chemicals close to anti-freeze that is harmful to pets.
