I have owned a pair of Technics RPDH1200 headphones for a year and a half. I use them for djing (outside and inside) and they are the most durable pair of headphones I have ever used. While I tend to take good care of mine, I have friends who have dropped or stepped on their headphones, as well as dropped many objects on them and they still work perfectly. Listening quality is also superb on these headphones. These headphones amplify bass notes (i.e.-the kick drum in a track), which makes them perfect for getting precise beat matches. The bass boost makes them less than ideal for production as they do not represent the true sound of the track, so I would not recommend using them for this application.
As far as recognizable gear, these headphones are seen as some of the best and most durable headphones in the djing industry. Although each dj has their own preference, I have heard many times that these are a favorite of many. The Technics RPDH1200 headphones are also reasonably priced. If you shop around online, it would be reasonable to assume they can be found in the lower $100 price range.
The Technics RPDH1200 are the first headphones I recommend to any dj looking for a combination of sound quality, functionality, comfort and durability. Other comparable models are always lacking in one of these areas, but the Technics RPDH1200 headphones meet and exceed most expectations. Reasonable pricing and long life make these headphones the smart choice when buying new headphones for djing or music listening purposes. Of all the things I've bought in the past year and a half, these stand out as the best purchase.
