Product Review: Teddy Grahams Trail Mix

If Your Kids Love Teddy Grahams, Will They Love the Trail Mix?

Melissa W
I am a BzzAgent, and one of the perks is that I get to try products and then share my experience with others. My children, ages one and four, both love Teddy Grahams, and so when I was invited to try out the new Teddy Grahams Trail Mix, I eagerly accepted.

The Product

Teddy Grahams Trail Mix is currently available in two different varieties - Bears and Cheese and Bears and Bees. The Bears and Bees mix comes in a blue box and includes chocolate Teddy Grahams bears, graham cracker bees, pretzels, and yogurt filled raisins. The Bears and Cheese mix comes in an orange box and includes Teddy Grahams bears, pretzels, raisins, and Cheese Nips crackers.

Each box contains approximately eight ½ cup servings. The Bears and Bees mix has 130 calories, 3.5 fat grams, and 7 grams of sugar per serving. The Bears and Cheese mix has 130 calories, 3.5 fat grams, and 6 grams of sugar per serving.

The Kid Test

I had a couple of different opportunities to put the Bears and Bees mix to "the kid test." My daughter had a few friends over, and I offered them some as a special snack. It was a hit and one little girl begged her mom to buy some for their house. My daughter loved it, too. All of the kids kept asking for more. The next "kid test" was on a family vacation. When snack time arrived, I pulled out the Bears and Bees Mix and again, it was a hit.

I let my kids try the Bears and Cheese mix first. I saved this for them because in addition to their love for Teddy Grahams, they also love cheese crackers. I figured this would be a hit. As I was pouring it into bowls for them, I immediately noticed that the mix was more bears than anything else. This did not go unnoticed by my four year old who immediately said, "Where are all the cheese crackers?" She grabbed the box and began shaking it trying to find more. There weren't any. I thought maybe it was a fluke so we bought another box and had similar results.

The Adult Taste Test

On our family vacation, once the kids were down for a nap, the adults decided to sample both mixes. The Bears and Bees mix was a huge hit. There's just something about the chocolate, graham crackers, and saltiness from the pretzels that makes them irresistible. Between four of us, we downed an entire box and had to go out and buy more for the kids. Like the kids, we weren't overly impressed with the Bears and Cheese mix. It was basically like eating a box of Teddy Grahams, but a lot more expensive.

Other Information

The Teddy Grahams Trail mix has an educational appeal for preschoolers. On each box, there are "Achievement Awards" which are basically badges that you can cut out and give to your kids. The badges say things like, "I shared today" or "I'm a good listener." There are six badges total. They also have developed a website with Scholastic that includes educational activities that you can do with your preschooler using Teddy Grahams. It includes counting games, a scavenger hunt, and a snack song. My four year old loved these activities.

Summary
Teddy Grahams Trail Mix is sold at most grocery stores as well as stores such as Walmart and Target. The prices ranged from $2 per box to $3.49 per box. I found the best prices at Walmart. It is fun for a special treat every now and then, but not something I would spend money on regularly. If you are going to try it out, I recommend that you skip the Bears and Cheese mix and check out the Bears and Bees mix.
