Product Review: Tristar Vacuum

Erika
When my husband and I got married, we bought an average vacuum cleaner, which worked well for a couple of months. I thought I would save money by purchasing a bagless vacuum cleaner, but all I got from it were many problems!

The things the vacuum picked up would continually get stuck somewhere in the vacuum, and I was constantly taking the vacuum apart to unstick the latest particle that had gotten trapped. Then it got clogged with Christmas tree needles and refused to have much suction at all. I was so frustrated with our vacuum, when along came a vacuum cleaner salesman knocking on our door.

Since this salesman offered us free movie and pizza coupons just to listen to and watch his demonstration, we invited him into our home to show us why the Tristar was a great vacuum cleaner.

I have to say that the Tristar presentation was interesting. The salesman didn't dump a bunch of debris onto our carpet, like I expected he would. I don't actually remember what he did do to impress upon us how great the Tristar vacuum cleaner worked, but somehow he convinced both me and my husband that the Tristar would be a nice investment. At least much better than my current non-suctioning bagless vacuum.

After some banter with the salesman, we bought the Tristar vacuum cleaner, and for the most part, I have no regrets about doing so. Yes it was extremely expensive, but I needed a functioning vacuum cleaner. Yes there are cheaper vacuums similar to the Tristar, but I didn't know about them at the time. If I would have known that, I would not have purchased the Tristar. But I did purchase the Tristar, and after nearly 4 years of usage, it still works as well as the day we purchased it.

The Tristar does require bags. At first I was worried about constantly having to purchase more bags for the Tristar, but then my husband found a great price for the Tristar bags in bulk online. We purchased multiple bags a few years ago and are still well stocked for a few more years. The bags go inside the machine easily and come out easily, although I have to be careful not to spill all the lint and dirt if the bag is extremely full.

The Tristar picks up dirt and lint very well not only on carpet but also on hard surfaces such as tile, hardwood and laminate floors. It does come with several different attachments for vacuuming things other than floors, but I've found that one particular attachment really takes care of all my other vacuuming needs and I ignore the other attachments.

I remember the Tristar salesman saying that the vacuum was easily portable for vacuuming up and down stairs, but I've found that it's not as easy as I expected. Stairs are not easy to vacuum when you're dragging a heavy vacuum motor behind you. However I haven't had any accidents; I've been careful when vacuuming the stairs and I can't complain much.

The Tristar motor seems like it has gotten louder since we bought it, but of that I am not certain. I have had only one clogging incident, but I called the Tristar company and they explained to me what to do over the phone. I was able to unclog the Tristar almost immediately. I have never had to bring my Tristar in to be serviced and it's four years old.

Overall, I am so glad that I no longer have to think about my vacuum performing. I have an expensive vacuum that functions like it's expensive. As long as my Tristar keeps on performing how it's been performing, I will continue to be happy I purchased a Tristar vacuum cleaner, even if it was from a vacuum cleaner salesman.

  • The Tristar vacuum is expensive, but is a great vacuum cleaner.
  • Supposidly there are cheaper vacuums similar to the Tristar.
Regardless of price, I was so glad to hear there was such a vacuum as the Tristar vacuum.

Our family is extremely dissappointed with the way this company operates. A "so called tristar rep" came to my 83 yr old mother-in-laws house around 5:30 in the evening while she was outside. A lady approached her saying she had a "free lighted snowman" for her. My mother in law insisted she did not want it and was not going to buy it. The lady insisted it was "FREE". So my mother in law takes it and goes in the house to put it up, when this other lady follows her. The lady then proceeds to tell my mother in law that she also has a candle. At this my MOL says she doesn't want a candle. The lady then says she has another appointment and as she goes to leave, a man shows up at the door with a vaccum. My MOL says if she would have known they were coming to try to sell her a vaccum, she would have never even taken the snowman. Now this man is in the house doing a demo and trying to convince this 83 yr old that she needs this vac. Even says that h

I purchased my tristar in May and I absolutely love it! I have 3 cats and this vacuum is amazing it has great sucking power and the Mini star is great for beds and chairs the cats get coveres in fur. I have allergies to cats and dust go figure, with this machine I can eliminate the dust and cat hair with ease. It is expensive to originally purchase but it is worth it. It is solid and very high quality. We had a 1999 model we traded in when the salesman came to see us so we got a good discount. The bags are cheaper online "Ebay", and filters as well. It's a good feeling to know that the carpets and floors are cleaned well not just average. I have used the blower about 5 times already it's awesome and has saved me from sawdust, cat hair and dust. It's a bit annoying with a salesman coming into your house pressurng you to buy one, my advise "again Ebay". Good Luck.

I have TWO Compact/TriStar vacs & have to say I wouldn't use any other brand vacs. One is a 1964 23rd Anniv. Edition & the other is a 1985 2-speed CXL that my family bought new. Both TriStar vacs outcleaned every other vac I owned & my home is a lot cleaner than ever before. They outperformed a Shop Vac & a central vacuum; & are quieter than these inferior vacs.

I have been cleaning homes professionally for the past 18 years. I have used every kind of vacuum...Rainbow, Filter Queen, Dyson. I LOVE my Tristar!! T can use it for a seat to rest on, a stepstool in a pinch, and a blower. My cord was replaced once, ane it IS hard to find a dealer, which is why i'm online. I would recomend this to everyone, hands down; this is a winner!!

We bought our Tristar 12 years ago, and its still working great. I have no problem with it picking up pet hair (2 dogs, 6 cats). We had to replace the cord, but that was due to a puppy mishap. I've only replaced bags and filters. Haven't even needed to replace the belt yet. It is a little heavy, but I would take it over any plastic cheapy. You can store it easily anywhere. Yes, it was expensive, but it has paid for itself over the years. Yes, you can buy one at 1/8 the price, and you get 1/8 the satifaction. I went through many of the 1/8 priced vacuums. You can find them in the dump.

I bought one of these 2000+ vacuums which I complained constantly but the thing works. Which the other 5 before didn't. I guess you get what you pay for.

we purchased this vacuum cleaner 2 years ago. It worked excellent for the first two years until recently, we adopted a puppy. I seemed to noticed that the vacuum is not very good in sucking dog shed on the carpet,it loses its suction the first 2 weeks of vacuuming our carpet, i even empty the bag when it's quarter full just for it to work. Our dog does not have that much fur to begin with, but for some reason , fur ball get stuck on its hose . It is a very a good vacuum i admit but i won't recommend it to people with pets. It's suctioning system does not work well with dog shed. I think it's over priced to be encountering this kind of simple problem. Now, in frustration, we have to take it to the repair shop because it stopped working. We paid more than $3000 for this, and i don't think it's worth it.

The tri-star salesmen came in did their routine of vacuuming a spot for 5 minutes with our machine, and then going over the same spot with the tri-star and picking up lots of dirt that ours hadn't picked up. We didn't buy the tri-star because it was way over our budget. So

The very next day, just for fun, I stuck a coffee filter in the hose of our vacuum (a 15 year old Beam central vac with an old Dirt Devil power head I put on with the original power head quit working). I went over the same spot as the Tri-Star fellows and picked up an amazing amount of dirt! I went over the same spot another 6 times with a fresh coffee filter each time, and picked up the same amount of dirt each time!! I looked like I was picking up about the same amount of dirt as the Tri-Star fellows.

So I think our vacuum is just fine. Probably most are. I'm sure the Tri-Star is a decent vacuum cleaner too. But what their demonstration most accurately demonstrates is how absolutely filthy regularly

I have a TriStar and love it. We bought ours 7 years ago and it still works perfect! Only down side is the fact that it's not an upright. But it will pick anything up off the floor. Our sales guy used our vacuum and cleaned a spot. Then he put a paper towel inside the canister [of the tristar] and vacuumed it over the spot again. It picked up a lot of stuff. But we still we're not sold on it. Finally my DH said well if it has a blower on it I'll buy it [joking] and the salesman said if it did would you really buy it. My husband said yep. And the darn guy connected the hose to the front [making it a blower] So we ended up buying it. We got ours for $1500 with a free vacation [that we never used] plus we got 200 for our old vacuum. all in all we paid $1300. breaking it down it was 185.00 a year for 7 years. We we're buying a new Vacuum every year before.
