My current favorite Wasa crispbread is the Sourdough Rye crisp. It's a fairly thick cracker, with a good crisp bite and tastes somewhat like a light sourdough rye toast. Each cracker is about 2 inches wide and four inches long. There are 25 crackers per container and one cracker is a serving. Each serving has 35 calories, 0 grams of fat or trans fat, 45 mg of sodium (2% of RDA), 9 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of dietary fiber, 0 grams of sugar and 1 gram of protein. Each serving provides 8 grams of whole grains.
The other flavors are as follows: Fiber Rye, with 30 calories per cracker, Hearty Rye with 45 calories per cracker, Light Rye with 30 calories per cracker, Multi-Grain with 45 calories per cracker, Oats with 60 calories per cracker, Sesame Toast with 60 calories per cracker, and Crisp 'N Light 7 Grain with 60 calories per 3 crackers. I've tasted all of the varieties and enjoy their whole grain textures and flavors. Wasa crispbreads are a product of Sweden, and the Fiber Rye, Sourdough Rye and Light Rye flavors are Kosher. There are no nuts or any traces of nuts in any of the crispbreads, although there are certain other allergens such as wheat, milk and gluten.
You can top Wasa crispbreads with just about anything. For breakfast you could top a crisp with drained, thickened vanilla yogurt and berries, scrambled eggs and cheese, cottage cheese and tomato slices, etc. If you want a quick snack spread a crisp with peanut butter and jelly or honey or sliced fruit, sliced lunchmeat and cheese, tuna fish and pickles. You can make open faced sandwiches out of crisps or you could spread them with herbed, light cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers for an elegant and light appetizer. They're also a perfect addition to a fruit and cheese board. Go online and visit www.wasa-usa.com for more information and recipe ideas.
Wasa crispbreads are a great value. They only cost about three dollars and there are 25 crackers in each container. They last about 12 months, unopened, in the pantry. However, after opening my crispbreads I usually only eat one, sometimes two, a day. They last at least a month opened without going stale or losing their crispy texture. I highly recommend stocking Wasa crispbreads in your pantry for healthy snacking or quick appetizers. They're a delicious way to include more whole grains and natural foods into your diet.
