Product Review: WeatherCase Wireless 5-Day Forecaster Desk Clock

If you know anyone who is really into the weather, the WeatherCase Wireless 5-Day Forecaster Desk Clock would make a great present so they can keep any eye on it at all times. The great part about this product is that the weather comes to you for free radio signals from AccuWeather.com so you do not need to pay any fees or have it connected to the internet. The Forecaster Desk Clock costs $49.95 at Brookstone.

The Forecaster Clock works in real-time to display the true current and forecasted weather. Current weather appears largely in the upper left hand corner while the forecast for the next four days is displayed across the bottom. The time is shown in the biggest numbers in the upper right hand side so this device truly can replace your current desk clock.

The product can display the weather for 152 cities. While these cities are spread throughout the United States, it averages to about 3 cities per state. This means that you are not getting weather that is incredibly accurate to your true location unless you are living in a large city.

The device shows the daily high and low temperatures along with the current temperature and an arrow to show if it is rising or calling. There are also icons to show current weather conditions such as sunny, cloudy, rainy, etc. A neat feature, called the "Feels like" feature takes into account the wind chill, humidity, and current temperature to tell you what the temperature currently feels like outside.

The product is trimmed in a dark wood finish so it will fit in with almost any décor. There is a button to illuminate the screen if you wish to view it in the dark. It is only a few inches across so it does not take up much room on your desk. The clock runs off of 4 AA batteries which I find to last for about a year. This option makes sense instead of a power cord because the device is small and would look strange with a large cord coming out of it.

While this product does not do anything especially exciting, it makes a good gift for people that are hard to buy for or already have everything. Everybody needs to know the weather at one time or another. While all of the information it provides is readily available on the internet, the forecaster clock provides it on your desk at a glance to keep you up-to-date.
