Product Review: The Windshield Wonder

A Gadget for Cleaning Your Car Windows from the Inside

L. Spain
Our car windows were getting bad. The glare from on-coming cars at night was blinding. When we looked to the left and right, we had to look around smudges left by our dog's wet nose. We could squeegie our windows at the gas station and they still looked terrible because they were dirty from the inside. We were sick of nasty windows. But, we didn't want to leave streaks by using window cleaner in the Toyota Highlander. When I saw the Windshield Wonder on an end cap at Target, I hoped our windshield quandaries would have a solution and I immediately threw it in our cart. At $10, I could take a gamble on the Windshield Wonder. Here is my review of the Windshield Wonder.

The Windshield Wonder consists of a 16-inch long, curved, plastic handle with a pivoting square head that holds a microfiber bonnet. This Telebrands product comes with a small spray bottle and two microfiber bonnets that can fit over the head. To clean your windshield, you simply fill the spray bottle with water, slip a microfiber bonnet over the Windshield Wonder's head, and slip into your drivers seat. Then, you simply spray you windshield with the water and dry it off with the Windshield Wonder. From the comfort of your driver's seat, you can simply clean your windshield without a lot of stretching and contorting. The plastic handle creaked a little when I was aggressive in my cleaning strokes, but the Windshield Wonder seemed sturdy enough to last.

Initially, I had great luck with the Windshield Wonder. I was able to assemble the Windshield Wonder, slip a microfiber bonnet right on, spray the bonnet, spray my windshield, and get it clean fast. By using regular water, the Windshield Wonder doesn't leave streaks. I was fairly smitten with the Windshield Wonder, jumped out of our Toyota Highlander, opened all of our doors, and started cleaning all of our car windows. However, by the time I got about half way done, the microfiber cloth bonnet was pretty wet and the Windsheild Wonder was leaving small droplets of water on my windows. I decided to replace the microfiber bonnet with the extra bonnet provided.

Unfortunately, the extra bonnet was a tad too small for the Windshield Wonder's face. It fit. But, I had to tug, and tug, and adjust, and struggle, and tug before I could get the extra microfiber bonnet onto the Windshield Wonder. Hopefully, my experience was an isolated incident. Once I was able to get the extra microfiber bonnet onto the Windshield Wonder, I was able to continue cleaning my windows without any problem. However, I could see the difficulty changing microfiber bonnets affecting older Americans, arthritics, and many others who seek out the convenience of a product like the Windshield Wonder.

Overall, I liked the job that the Windshield Wonder did cleaning our windshield and other car windows. Once our windshield was clean, it was like we had HD windows. The clarity was amazing and only improved when I put on my HD Wraparound sunglasses. The Windshield Wonder did leave a few tiny fibers on my windshield when I first used it, but the improvement in visibility was incredible. I am a little concerned about the tight fitting microfiber bonnets, but the Windshield Wonder seems like a good value for $10. In my opinion, the Windwhield Wonder is a pretty good product.
