Products to Keep Hair Extensions Looking Great Longer

Save Money by Extending the Life of Hair Extensions

Demetria Dixon
Many hair extensions have been processed extensively before they land in salons or on beauty supply store shelves. There are steps you can take to repair this damage and help extensions stay shiny and healthy looking.

Apply Pre-Treatment

Because of the damage resulting from the processing done to hair extensions, they tend to be hydrophilic, or water loving. When they are wet they tend to swell, tangle and become hard to manage. Ionix Pre-shampoo is a mild formulation that adds natural oils back to the extension so that the hair fibers are protected during the rest of the styling process.

Use a Low Detergent Shampoo

A brand such as Shikai, with its nondetergent formulation of aloe vera and panthenol works without stripping or damaging the cuticle layer of the hair.

Condition

To keep extensions looking healthy and shiny, use a daily conditioner like Joico Daily Care Conditioner. Joico contains natural oils and plant-based extracts. It enhances body and extends the life of the extensions.

Deep Conditioner

A once a week deep conditioner ensures the hair extension gets the maximum lubrication without adding excess oils or emollients that can weigh hair down and leave it looking dull and lifeless. Strong Sexy Hair Strengthening & Revitalizing Treatment by Sexy Hair Concepts is great for repairing extensions that have been damaged by processes like flat ironing and hair coloring.

Revitalizing Treatment

Because many extensions are dyed, they contain peroxides. Over time, these peroxides enhance the oxidizing effects of the sun. A good revitalizing maintenance spray like Ionix Revitalizing Maintenance spray will neutralize the peroxides and stop sun fading, bleaching and dullness. The hair ends are one of the first places damage manifests in split ends, brittleness and breakage. The spray also moisturizes and repairs hair ends .

The Ionix line of products are specially formulated to work with hair extensions and other hair replacement systems.
