Many people take professional cooking classes just to learn how to spice up their home meals or win a loved ones heart. Others take professional cooking classes to start their own business or land a successful job in a top restaurant. You may even be thing about starting your own catering business.

If you are thinking of going to work for a major restaurant then the place you attend can be just as important as the skills that you learn. Much like attending a major university to obtain a degree you will be doing the same thing with professional cooking schools. Some professional cooking schools simply have a much more prestigious reputation over others and will assist you in finding the best and highest paying jobs available in the professional cooking industry today.

Some professional cooking schools can take up to 2 years or more to complete. Others are set up on an hourly basis requiring you to complete at least six hundred or more hours to receive your certificate.

Start a Catering Business

If you are looking to start a catering business you may not need to attend as many classes. You may only need some basic cooking skills and certification to handle food and then you can obtain a business license. Your love for cooking and skills will most likely be your selling point. You can really be creative when it comes to your own catering business. You could even take this skill to team up with some restaurants.

If you are thinking more about working in a major restaurant instead of owning your own business then you may need to consider a more involved professional cooking school setting. The investment to attend the more prestigious schools will most likely pay off in the end if you stick to it and learn your craft well.

Professional cooking can be a very rewarding career. People who do well in this industry often claim they could not imagine doing anything else for a living. You get to help other enjoy life wit the taste of good food, ad you get to use your skills at the same time. Professional cooking is a real art and many people can gain a powerful bit of influence.

    are you kidding me? as someone who followed her passion for food and cooking.... and realized that I had a lot of company in that passion.... I would NEVER say that it is a lucrative field to go into without a lot more in depth explanation of the trade.... Start a catering company? You must be one of those that lives in a different world than the rest of the country. A world where you can use all of your savings to start a catering business that has a 15% chance or less of surviving. But it doesnt matter, because my husband has enough of an income that we can live on and still keep the nanny. Please. Yeah, go to culinary school. At least its job security for my restaurant friends who want to get teaching jobs with regular hours and benefits....
