Professional Resume Writing Company - Legit or Not?

How to Find a Resume Writing Company

Brian Munger

If you have decided to utilize the services of a professional resume writing company, you must take all necessary measures to ensure that you are dealing with a legit business. There are many investigative techniques you can implement to determine if the company is credible. Two techniques that will significantly help you in the process include:

CPRW Status

Many resume companies are run by a sole writer/owner, in which case their names will be revealed on the website. More than likely, they will claim to hold status as a Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW). This certification is held by nearly every single reputable resume writer. It is extremely beneficial to you to work with a CPRW; however, before doing so, do a quick search on www.google.com to determine if this claim is accurate. Some writers have been known to fabricate the truth about holding CPRW status. To verify, simply type in the name of the writer, followed by "CPRW." If the writer has CPRW status, there should be at least one link that pops up from the Professional Association of Resume Writers, which is the organization that is in charge of releasing these certifications. If you don't see any mention of the writer's name and the aforementioned organization within the first three Google search pages, then it's very possible that this writer is leading you on!

Testimonials

Resume writing companies pride themselves on customer satisfaction and often want to show off their successes on their web page. Companies utilize the "testimonials" tab to reveal the positive feedback of countless clients; however, for the sake of the client's privacy, the full names of these clients are never revealed by the quotes, hence, all you see are the first and last initials of the clients. This, in turn, creates the unfortunate opportunity for many companies to create fake testimonials. It is very difficult to determine what testimonials are real and which ones are not; however, there are two things to keep in mind to help give you a better determination.

Read a large handful of the testimonials on the site. Are you finding a lot of testimonials that repeatedly mention the company name throughout the quote? Do these quotes remind you of NASCAR drivers that are forced to say their sponsor names every ten seconds during interviews? These testimonials seem to be more geared to promote and "pump" the name of the company rather than discuss the quality of work provided. If you come across testimonials like this, then be cautious. As an experienced resume writer of many years, and owner of a top-quality resume writing company (Resume Phenom, LLC), I can tell you first-hand that over 98% of testimonials rarely mention the name of your company. They may mention the name of the writer a couple of times, but it is seldom that they go out of their way to repeatedly mention the company's name. Is it possible that companies are creating these self-made testimonials and repeatedly mentioning their company name so they can increase their web visibility? Hmm -- .

One other thing to look out for in these testimonials is the location. Many testimonials list the city of where the client is from. Are you noticing that every client appears to be from big-name cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas? Surely they had some clients in smaller, lesser known cities?? Fake testimonials are often paired with big-name cities. The creators of these testimonials do not want to take the time to look up names of other random cities'"they often come up with the first city that comes to mind, which will normally be a city we've all heard of. If you see a website that includes testimonials from several less familiar cities (like www.resumephenom.com ) as well as the big cities, then the chances of the testimonials being legit are likely increased.
