Professional South Florida Bamboo Plant Suppliers

South Florida Bamboo Plants

Gwyn Guess
South Florida is an area with some extremely wealthy communities. Drive down the East Coast and you'll pass a continuous assortment of private gated communities. High walls overhung with bouganvillas and delicate tendrils of creeping fig winding up them. The drive through Bocca Raton is a passage through some of the richest real estate in all of Florida. Manicured lawns, walls and iron gated fencing, graceful palms and exquisite gardens alive with tropical color. Rich people do indeed live well and they love to display their wealth and keep their homes and gardens perfectly groomed. Beautiful landscaping requires the right plants and the expertise to serve a market for exotics, tropicals, ornamental grasses and bamboo. That's why many landscapers love this area. Bamboo growers in the region have more than their share of work filling orders. This is an extremely expensive plant to purchase, but there is well more than enough wealth here to pay for the very finest bamboo and rare plants from experienced nurseries.

Bamboo For You is a major supplier of bamboo, both running and clumping, to South Florida residents. They're located on a ten-acre farm near Sarasota and Bradenton and are just a few minutes from Interstate 95. They serve the entire Tampa-Bradenton-St. Petersburg-Ft. Myers area. This grower sells their bamboos in 1,2-3,5 and 10-gallon containers. Prices, of course, depend on the size chosen. Their clumping varieties run anywhere from $25 for a 2-3-gallon container to $120. They will deliver to areas they serve, including Naples, but Bamboo For You does not ship their bamboos anywhere. They grow some very rare varieties that are perfectly suited to the South Florida climate and conditions. They can be contacted by email at service1@Bamboo4u.com and people need to call them for a convenient time to come visit and look over their selections: (941) 322-0603

Tropical Bamboo does not even deal with running bamboo, it is so intensely invasive. The only varieties for purchase here are of the clumping varieties. This nursery has a retail sales center and display garden. They sell retail by mail order through their website, and do a wholesale to landscapers for containerized bamboos and even large field-grown specimens. Presently, they have over 100 separate species for sale. Their 3-gallon containers of featured specimens run from $35-$100, depending on the rarity of the choice. Anyone interested in purchasing bamboo on their own should really read their link, "Clumping Vs. Running Bamboos," as it will give a pretty concise capsule about what the two varieties differ. They also explain that the tropical clumping variety they sell has to be bought from a quarentine station that has held it for a year, and that it is even then very hard to propagate. This is the reason for the extremely high prices you will pay. The also lecture about bamboo, offer maintenance and installation, and even rent bamboos in containers for special events!
