Professional Sport of Video Gaming

Who would've thought that when we were playing your video games as a kid in the 80's and 90's that the industry would evolve into a professional sport. The gamer and kid in me, loves the idea. However, will it translate well in the real world. The growing industry for video games has produced an outlet for years to have fun and enjoy friendly competition. However, now you can get paid to compete on teams or individually as a professional gamer. There are organizations or leagues for professionals in this sport. Will this be enough for the sport to last?
The list of leagues are Cyberathlete Professional League, Major League gaming, and World Cyber League. Despite the fact that video gaming doesn't require the players to get in shape with rigorous training for the body, it is still a professional sport. The players are on teams, and some may participate individually for the competitions held throughout the year. The players play video games against other gamers for title and monetary winnings. Could this get any better? You compete in competitions playing video games and if you win you get paid. For individuals who loves games this is probably a dream come true!!
However, this is somewhat an unknown sport. It is not promoted as much as other sports or competitions. If you are not a serious gamer, perhaps you would not know of this leagues or opportunities. If it was promoted more, just as the upcoming games or new consoles, the popularity would possibly increase. Individuals would probably flock to these leagues with hope of becoming a professional gamer. Gamers from past would have an opportunity to get involved, and have a second career. They would be given an opportunity to be a part of something that was not available during Atari, Sega Genesis years, or early Nintendo days. People who enjoy games but are not true gamers could also want to get involved with the league, and of course hardcore gamers may want to do the same. This would allow more participants to get involved, and knowledge of the competitions for those unaware. It would probably create interest, and curiosity for the sport. It could then gain financial help with companies or individuals to become sponsors. Money for this sport would add longevity because home video gaming has had the staying power for over 20 years. So this could potentially be a sport that could be around for the next new gaming consoles.
