The Australian terrier "Aussie" is a popular small breed of dog. It has a medium length coat that grows to be 2 or 3 inches long. Their coats are soft to the touch if kept well groomed. Brown and tan are the most common coat colors among this breed. Their ears stand tall and their muzzle is a standard - medium length. They're not extremely fast runners due to the fact their legs are quiet small. A healthy Aussie should have a strong - slender figure.
Average life span:
The Aussie live to be an average age of 15 years old. This particular breed tends to live a lot longer; they can live to be around 23 or 24 years. Good health does play an important part in an Aussies life. Without proper care, your Aussie may never make it to 15 years let alone 24 years.
Height:
Both male and female Aussies will stand to be 9 - 11 inches (23 - 28cm) tall. Males tend to lean toward 10 and 11 inches tall, and the female usually stays around 9 and 10 inches tall. This may become reversed in your dog. You could end up with a female of taller heights or a male with shorter limits.
Weight:
Both genders weigh in about the same. Average weight is about 12 pounds (5.4 kg). Weight will range to be 9 - 14 pounds. It is not recommended that your Aussie drops 4 pounds below the lowest weight limit, and does not exceed 6 pounds over the highest weight limit. This could lead to illness.
Liter size:
The female Aussie averages a liter of 4 pups.
Health problems:
The Australian terrier is not a breed of common disease. They don't have an average health problem running throughout their breed blood. The Aussie is a hardy - healthy dog that tends to live a long - health problem free - life.
Temperament:
The Aussie has a tough, courageous, witty, outgoing, fun - love personality. They are loyal to their family and will have an endless supply of energy for them to enjoy. When it comes to protection, these little guys are on the guard. They make it top priority to watch over their family. The Aussie does not seem to have a temper toward children, and do quite well with them.
Living conditions:
This breed of dog will do fine in apartment life. They are normally very active indoors, though. Liter training is teachable to the Aussie. It is recommended that you liter train them, if you're going to, while they're still young pups.
