Profile: Dollar Tree in North Dallas, Texas

Drew Taylor
When Dollar Tree first came to the Dallas area, local television stations aired a memorable commercial. It featured a surprised customer asking the prices of various items because she cannot believe everything was one dollar. It was a silly commercial, but accurately captured the fun and surprise of shopping at Dollar Tree for the first time.

This Dollar Tree store is not very large and shoppers can quickly view the diverse selection. The layout is very basic and it is easy to find the appropriate aisle. Unfortunately, the aisles are long and narrow, sometimes leading to congestion in the walkways. It is easier to shop without the family in tow.

Holidays at Dollar Tree
Seasonal merchandise is usually front and center near the entrance. Expect to find decorations, gifts and partyware for upcoming holidays. Shopping for Christmas stockings, Easter basket filler, Halloween decorations and the like at Dollar Tree is an easy way to save money. Since the selection is inconsistent, it is best to first shop for hidden treasures at Dollar Tree and use a back up store, such as Target, to complete the shopping list.

Dollar Store Favorites
Seasonal products, gift bags, books and craft supplies are some of the best buys at Dollar Tree. Another fun find is the magic towel. It is a compressed washcloth that "magically" expands when placed in warm water. These 12 x 12 washcloths feature a variety of cartoon characters including SpongeBob, Batman, Dora the Explorer and Tweety.

Name brand bargains are a Dollar Tree treasure. The best bargains, especially name brand and seasonal products, tend to sell out quickly. The merchandise varies and the stores do not know what is coming in the next shipment. The here today, gone tomorrow selection means it is best to buy bargains in one shopping trip instead of expecting them to be there later.

Dollar Tree Policies
This chain does not accept coupons and all sales are final. However, shoppers can exchange new, non-seasonal merchandise with a receipt.

Three Things to Know Before You Go
It is common for a long line to form at the check out. The good news is the line moves very quickly. The bad news is this store has a large, prominent display of candy along the check out counter. The toy aisle is also nearby.

Not everything is a bargain at Dollar Tree and it is easy to overspend at dollar stores. Help curb impulse buys by setting a budget before going to the store. Also, consider the quality and usefulness of products instead of mindlessly filling the shopping cart.

There are a few prime parking spots located directly in front of the store, but it can be time consuming to get in and out of those spots since they are in the midst of a busy shopping center. Consider adjacent parking spaces if time is of the essence.
