Who Is Gwyneth Paltrow?

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow (Best Actress, Shakespeare in Love, 1998) is starring in the new movie Love Don't Let Me Down with Tim McGraw. According to Examiner, Paltrow plays music superstar Kelly Canter, a country star who is staging her big comeback with the help of her manager-husband, played by Tim McGraw. In this role Paltrow performs country songs written by some of Nashville's best songwriters while McGraw, a country singer by profession, doesn't sing at all. While attending a taping for Love Don't Let Me Down in Nashville, a friend commented that people around her were asking, "Who is Gwyneth Paltrow?"

Gwyneth Paltrow - Singer

This is not the first time Paltrow has lent her vocals to a project. Probably her most famous song is her duet with Huey Lewis on "Cruisin'" from the 2000 karaoke movie Duets. The Paltrow-Lewis version of "Cruisin'" has been getting regular pop radio airplay for a decade. Paltrow also sang Cole Porter's "What Is This Thing Called Love" in the 2005 movie Infamous. (See YouTube videos of both songs at the conclusion of this article.)

Gwyneth Paltrow - Actress

However, Gwyneth Paltrow is less known as a singer and more recognized as an award-winning actress. According to Wikipedia, playing the role of Emma Woodhouse in the movie Emma earned Paltrow her first major award, a Satellite Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. Her portrayal of Helen Quilley in Sliding Doors garnered her several awards. Her work in A Perfect Murder, where she played Emily Bradford Taylor, earned Paltrow the Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Actress. However, it was her breakout role as Viola De Lesseps in the 1998 movie Shakespeare in Love that made Gwyneth Paltrow a household name.

Paltrow claims she was unprepared for her Shakespeare in Love success and has leaned towards smaller films since then, and starting in 2006 with the birth of her first child, she has chosen not to work much at all. She has still managed to garner several noteworthy roles in movies including: The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Royal Tenenbaums, Shallow Hal, the Austin Powers film Goldmember (what was she thinking?), Proof, and she plays Pepper Potts in both Iron Man and the upcoming Iron Man 2, scheduled to be released in May 2010.

Gwyneth Paltrow comes by her acting talent on both sides of her family. She is the daughter of director and producer Bruce Paltrow (who directed her in Duets) and actress Blythe Danner. Paltrow is married to singer Chris Martin of the British rock group Coldplay.
