Profile: Lindsay Lohan - is Actress, Singer Lindsay Lohan a Drug Addict or Lost Girl?
TMZ Website and UCLA Medical Center Report Lindsay Lohan is Not a Drug Addict nor Mentally Ill
Lindsay Lohan became more of a media magnet in 2007 for two driving under the influence (DUI) incidents and three visits to drug rehabilitation facilities. By now it had become clear Lindsay Lohan was following in the steps of another Disney darling turned lost girl, Britney Spears.
While filming Georgia Rule in 2006, Lohan was hospitalized again, this time for being "overheated and dehydrated." However, studio executive James G. Robinson penned a letter that called Lohan "irresponsible and unprofessional," mentioning "various late arrivals and absences from the set" and stating "we are well aware that your ongoing all night heavy partying is the real reason for your so-called 'exhaustion.'" This apparently prompted Lohan to begin attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in 2006.
In 2007 Lohan began one of several attempts at treatment when she admitted herself to the Wonderland Center rehabilitation facility. She checked herself out 30 days later, withdrew from a film to "focus on getting better," lost another role because she was "was going through a really bad time then," was arrested for DUI and entered rehab again. Not long after that, she was busted on a felony charge of possession of cocaine. This established the pattern for the next years of Lohan's life: parties, alcohol, drugs, DUIs, arrests, brief hospitilizations, short stints in jail, short stints in rehab, car wrecks, and lost film opportunities. Lindsay Lohan was spiraling downward, and her life and career were out of control. Apparently during these years Lohan was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, and addiction to methamphethamine among other ailments, and apparently she was prescribed a regime of drugs.
In May 2010, Lindsay Lohan skipped a scheduled DUI progress report hearing. After a bench warrant was issued and then rescinded, the judge scheduled a hearing to determine if Lohan had violated her probation by not attending the mandated number of classes. At her July 6, 2010 hearing, it was determined Lohan had violated the terms of her probation. After another short stint in jail, Lohan was sent to another rehabilitation facility.
However, this time the results were surprising. The doctors at UCLA's Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital believe Lindsay was misdiagnosed with ADHD and was prescribed Adderall to treat a non-existent condition. Dr. Joe Haraszti, an L.A. addiction specialist, told TMZ that people who are misdiagnosed and prescribed Adderall can experience effects similar to those of people who use cocaine or methamphetamine. According to TMZ, the UCLA doctors have carefully weaned Lohan from all six of her medications, including Dilaudid, Ambien, Adderall, Zoloft, Trazodone and Nexium.
Now doctors are saying Lohan may not have an addiction to methamphethamine or suffer from bipolar disorder, but that she instead has a personality disorder due to her difficult childhood. (www.nydailynews.com/)
This has led to some interesting speculation. "What TMZ and UCLA is reporting confirms exactly what I have been saying all along. Lohan is not an addict." Marty Angelo, of Marty Angelo Outreach Ministry to Prisons, Substance Abuse Recovery Programs and Troubled Celebrities, remarked. "This is why I first approached Lohan in 2007. I feel her root issues are spiritual in nature and can be easily overcome in a 12-month faith-based residential treatment center."
In light of the fact, UCLA is considering recommending that the court that release Lohan prior to her required 90-day rehab stay, Angelo asks, "What does she now do? Go back to square one on the streets with no help at all? Go back into the movie industry? Hang out in nightclubs just to start this process all over again? Lohan is not healed just because doctors can't find anything wrong with her."
Perhaps Angelo is onto something. Perhaps in a life filled with family turmoil, sexual exploitation and confusion, partying, drugs, alcohol, broken relationships and broken promises, lost girls like Lindsay Lohan might find healing in something greater than Hollywood, stability in something more fulfilling than parties, and hope in a God who will never let her down.
