Proflowers Easy Saver Scam

Stealing $14.95 Was Never This Easy

Ben Eubanks
Have you ever wanted to do something nice for someone? Buying flowers is a great way to let someone know that you care. But what happens when the flower company (Proflowers) sets you up with a scam called "Easy Saver?" The Easy Saver scam is well known across the Internet. Many people have been trapped in this heinous program, and I'm doing everything in my power to educate people before they fall victim like I did.

In the Beginning

It all started back in August. My wife was going back to work for another school year as a teacher, and I wanted to get her some flowers as a pick-me-up. I've heard great things about Proflowers, so I went to their site and ordered her a dozen roses. They arrived, she was thrilled, and life went on.

Halfway There

In October (about a month ago), I saw that our checking account had been charged $14.95 by something called "Easy Saver." I sometimes pay for Web hosting or other things through that account, so I didn't pay attention to it too much.

A Realization

In November (about a week ago), I saw that we had another $14.95 charge from Easy Saver Rewards, and I knew something was up. I quickly Googled "easy saver 14.95" and saw the dozens of people who had the same problem with this scam. That's when I realized that it was connected with Proflowers, and that blew me away. Most national companies wouldn't associate with something that drives customers away by the droves.

How Do I Get Out?

I really wanted to stop this recurring $15 charge, but all I had to go on were checking account statements with the innocuous "easy saver" moniker. Since I found out it was related to Proflowers, I sent an email to Proflowers customer support and received the following answer:

Dear Ben,

Thank you for contacting ProFlowers. We really appreciate your feedback on the EasySaver Rewards program. Rest assured, we take your comments seriously and we are constantly evaluating our partner programs to ensure they are providing the best value to our customers.

We apologize for any confusion you may have had with the enrollment process or the program itself. Let me take a moment to summarize the program enrollment. After you make a purchase on our site, we offer a $15 coupon good towards your next purchase. If you click on that coupon you will land on a registration page to join our EasySaver Rewards program. In order to enroll and receive the coupon, you must enter your email address and zip code as your acceptance of the terms and conditions of the program. The enrollment process and related partner program fees are stated within the Offer Details to the left of the "accept" button. We do not wish for any customer to be in the program who does not desire to be, and will help you to cancel your membership if you wish. If you have not already done so and would like to cancel this membership, feel free to call EasySaver Rewards directly at 1-800-355-1837 and simple instructions will be provided for you to cancel.

We understand your frustration and will incorporate your feedback as we refine the program for future customers. To follow up, I am going to forward your valuable comments to our group that oversees the program. Our customer experience is of the utmost importance and we will do anything to improve your future shopping experiences.

Once again, we apologize for your poor experience and we are here to help in any other way necessary. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are available for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Sincerely,

E. Customer Service

Basically, they told me that it was my fault for not seeing their little scam before I signed up. Just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, I checked my email archives, and I couldn''t find a record of signing up for this thing.

I called the number that customer service gave me, and I talked to a woman for about 60 seconds and closed my account. She gave me back $15 of my own money, but I'm not too thrilled, since they were stealing it from me anyway. Hence the reason for this article. If you have been affected by the Proflowers Easy Saver scam like so many of us, please call and cancel now before they can steal more of your money.

My Promise

I have pledged to never do business with Proflowers again. There are other options like 1800flowers and FTD to choose from. Let's show them that their decision to take our money through this scam is not going to be without consequences.

there is a class action lawsuit regarding proflowers, easy saver, and the other companies that are all owned by the same people (sharis berries, cherry moon farms, red envelope...). While they stopped dealing with easy saver, they picked up with another company that does a similar thing and they are being sued for that as well.

I too am a victim of the Easy Saver scam. I just made the realization this morning. First charge was 5/09, same month as my first purchase with Pro Flowers. I scan the credit statement and did periodically "wonder" who Easy Saver was and thougth it was a regular online charge, etc. I or my partner made. Check the statement every month!!
I remember the Pro Flower order and the pop up at the end of the order advertising savings etc. because I had to make a call when a vague message made mention of an initial 1.95 charge. I never punched in any info saying I was interested in the program.
I contacted the number to make sure I wasn't involved in something that I had no interest in. Obviously I was and they didn't remove my "membership" !! I have never received anything from them however they take money from me every month!!
I have spoken with my credit card company who will file fraud charges and Pro flower who directed me to call a number for Easy Saver. I

I just realized I was being charged $14.95 since 6/2008. Pro Flowers is going to refund back all charges, nearly $500.00. What a scam. Lesson learned to check your statement more closely.

I just realized I had been charged 14.95 a month for the past year. The real sneaky part of the charges is that easy savers changes the charge date so it does not come up as a recurring charge in quicken or other account screening software. I spent a day wrangling with these crooks on the phone and finally got a refund of all the money taken. Here's how to do it. If you had money deducted from a credit card account, call the fraud dept. of that card and remind them that you have been charged and have NOT RECEIVED ANY GOODS OR SERVICES FROM THAT VENDOR. That gets them on your side and they will muscle EMI marketing on your behalf. If it is a debit or bank withdrawal, threaten EMI marketing with the following actions: (1) Notifying them of a pending complaint Pennsylvania and Maryland Better Business Bureaus. (2) Contacting division of consumer protection of the dept. of commerce of your home state. (3) Contacting all affiliated vendors such as ProFlowers of your intent to se

The only thing scam artists understand is money. Click ProFlowers's sponsored links on search engines and other websites over and over. I want my $15 worth.

One of the ways to get this to stop is to report it to Google's quiet little online fraud company.

you can file a complaint here: https://badwarebusters.org/community/submit

If they get enough complaints they will remove the web sites involved from the search listings (and maybe even sponsor listings) and some security software could warn the customers

I ordered from Proflowers this past Valentine's Day and was caught in this scam. Though I check my credit card statements every month, it was not thorough enough as I just saw the charges this past weekend. I called Proflowers for them to tell me they will refund me $14.95. After I told the guy Easy Saver is a scam and it's all over the internet, he said he will refund me for 6 months. Thank you everybody who posted as it helped.

Dammit - just found over a year's worth of charges to Easy Saver on my credit card. Going to call them in the morning. Already called and complained to Proflowers - going to call back in the morning to get a supervisor.

Moral of the story - stop buying flowers for my wife! :-)
