Progesterone: Not a Just Woman's Hormone

Most men tend to assume that women are the ones who need progesterone, along with estrogen. However, males aren't just made up of testosterone. That would actually be pretty dangerous! While men do produce about 50-percent less progesterone than women, it is still vital to their health and well being.

The benefits of progesterone cream in men was studied after it was noticed that men were experiencing health benefits after spreading the cream on their wives. Since the progesterone in the cream is easily absorbed through the skin, these men were getting it through the palms of their hands while applying it to their wife (usually to relieve menopausal symptoms) and they discovered that those with prostate problems were getting better.

It has now been determined that men can also use progesterone cream and have an increase in prostate health, as well as lower their risk of prostate cancer. This is great news for men!

See, women go through menopause, which is a very drastic change. Men don't have such a noticeable line drawn between the stages in their lives, but they do experience a similar decline in hormones. It is slower and more gradual, but it can certainly affect men in a negative manner. Progesterone is the basis of other vital hormones such as testosterone. When the levels of progesterone go down, so does the production of other hormones, including cortisone which is useful in our joints.

It is therefore logical that an outside source of progesterone will boost testosterone and cortisone levels in the body. More and more men are turning to supplements and creams to help boost their hormone levels and keep them on track, as well as keeping their disease risk low.

More is not better, however. Overdosing on progesterone is a good way to kill your libido, among other things! While not deadly, (the amount of progesterone in one jar might make you sleepy, but won't hurt you) progesterone is best in measured doses. For women, the average dose is between 400-500 mg per day and men need about half that. This means that if the recommended dosage of a progesterone cream is 1 teaspoon, men will need just half a teaspoon, since these creams are almost exclusively marketed to men.

So, if you find yourself waning, remember that progesterone is not just for women, it can help men in their latter years, as well. It won't make you grow breasts or anything like that, this hormone has 0 feminine side effects. It is truly a multi-sex hormone.
