The first of the programs for Autism in California is the Programs for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities. This center services children from birth to two years of age. They provide early intervention services, as well as therapy, to enable the child to learn whatever possible and obtain a level of independence. For more information, you can contact Carlos Flores, who is the Manager of the Prevention & Children Services Branch of the Department of Developmental Services by calling (916) 654-2773. Should you want to visit in person, they are located at 1600 9th Street, Room #310

For Autistic adults that are capable of living on their own, there is the State Vocational Rehabilitation Agency. Not only does this agency help the Autistic individual to remain on his or her own, they help to find work and housing. They even will provide independent living services, as well as differing types of therapies, should there be a need. Finally, there is the California Autism Foundation. This is a state wide resource that helps to provide support services on all levels to both children and adults. Some of their services include supported employment, day programs, special schools, therapeutic services, and work activity programs. Not to mention, they provide respite care for families needing a breather, and they have group homes throughout the state for Autistic individuals needing a permanent place to live.
