Government is about regulation, rules and making sure the rules and regulations are followed. Government makes nothing. For example, NASA does not actually build rocket components, but they do assemble and oversee the entire process. If there were no subcontractors building the pieces parts, what would NASA launch into space? Nothing!
The engine of any successful modern nation lies in its ability to generate a good, service or wealth. Switzerland produces little but its financial services are world famous and it keeps itself propped up and viable based on that fact. India is rising to the fore because they have a huge population base with few regulatory restrictions and low wages, thus they can build a widget cheaper then an American company can. Anyone who thinks the US will ever again return to being the world's provider of manufactured goods is naive in the extreme.
Unions and the American standard of living preclude us ever again being the "big PX" for the world. Almost anything available here is available everywhere for the most part. Nations that have lower wages and lots of workers with an overall lower standard of living can produce anything Americans used to, but they can do it much cheaper.
Would anyone with an ounce of sense buy a $200.00 American made widget when the identical Indian made widget costs $100.00? If you think so, you have a lot of growing up to do. Sure, I would rather see an American worker benefit, but unless money is no object, people will always opt for the best value for their money. That $200.00 American widget better be something spectacular to expect anyone to pay twice the cost of any foreign made widget. All things being equal the US company will be shut down in about 15 minutes, no?
So if government produces nothing except bureaucracy, what again is the justification that growing government jobs will end recession and return this nation to some former lofty position? It won't and when you hear a progressive mouthpiece offer that you are hearing talking point, and one that has absolutely no basis in economic fact - not one single bit!
Government is here to serve the citizens, not regulate them, but since progressives got into power they have slowly but surely tried to alter that dynamic. The Constitution is a charter of negative liberties, meaning it is quite specific in what the government may NOT do to citizens. Progressives hate that with a passion.
Government by its very nature does not free men - it enslaves them. Take for example the continued economic malaise. Business is afraid of what progressives will try to do, thus they husband resources, pull in and batten down the hatches and are waiting out the storm to see what is coming. Until the future is manifest business will not expand because they fear government taxation and regulatory powers that could alter the individual business model. Business is enslaved by the fear of what the progressives will do - that is why the recession drags on.
For example, would I bother to apply for a Federal Firearms License to sell guns and ammo if government could do as Obama openly stated he favored, "a 500% tax on every new gun and ammo purchase?" Would I go to the expense of paying the fees and adhering to ATF rules and regs if six months from now the cost of a gun or ammo would be priced - through TAXATION mind you - out of the ability for the average citizen to buy one?
Obama's desire to heavily tax weapons and ammo keeps me from another entrepreneurial endeavor - getting a FFL and selling guns retail. Lost within that are the guns not bought and sold. No sales taxes collected. The gun maker makes no money from the buyer. The office space lessor loses a possible tenant. The shipper loses the income from shipping the weapon from the factory to the buyer, etc. It has a huge ripple effect. Isn't this plain to see?
See how regulation is used by progressives to force adherence to what they wish but cannot get passed by law? They cannot outlaw gun ownership as much as MANY of them wish they could. Since they cannot outlaw them, they can regulate and tax them so as to make future gun ownership for the average citizen almost unaffordable. Prolly put a lot of folks in the firearms industry out of work. See how progressive gov't keeps the recession dragging on?
Progressive government is all and totally about big government. It's all about regulating more aspects of our lives then they do now and I mean by a lot too! As well, it is about hating capitalism. And since capitalism is the "ism" that got us here to this lofty position to begin with, does anyone with a lick of historical factual knowledge actually think hating the engine of citizen wealth and standard of living is a good thing?
Progressives must have control of government in order to do what they want and what they want is to regulate that evil capitalism and remove any chance that a citizen will act in an autonomous manner. They need to make government even bigger then it is now, and it is already way too big and out of control.
Progressivism, like government, does not produce anything at all except words and proposed regulation and they seek a manner of forcing the nation and citizens to yield to their desires. My last word on this: If progressive wished for government were all progressives claim it is, why are they not honest and tell us what it is they want and how they intend to do it?
Instead they hide behind concepts such as "inclusion" and "social and economic justice," which is just code for Marxism. After all, it was Marx and Engels who hated capitalism and argued for a progressive collective thought process and social and economic justice - ya know, just like today's American progressives are forwarding.
Are these connections that abstract? Seemingly only to a progressive. I have been studying progressive thought since I was in college 20 years ago. Either their rank and file are clueless as to what progressivism really is or they have a real problem with honesty, which is obviously my conclusion based on my studying progressives and what they want - social democracy and that is Marxism by another name. And me and mine are the bad guys for not going along with their Marxist ideology? Get over yourselves - I got over progressives a long time ago.
