Progressives Hijacked the Once Noble Democrat Party

Snidely Whiplash
What astute political observer or operative of either party could NOT see this coming? Like thieves in the night the Progressive movement has hijacked the Democrat Party. That's grand larceny on a monumental scale, second only to Hitler's hijacking of Germany.

How many heard big mouth Bill Maher's recent statement that the American political landscape needs realignment? In his statement Maher uttered "What we need is an actual progressive party to represent the millions of Americans who aren't being served by the Democrats, because bottom line: Democrats are the new Republicans." (Huffington Post. see link in SOURCES).

Basically Maher calls for a Progressive Party and a Democrat Party. Hmmm....No room at the table for my peeps, huh? Well, how 'bout if I were to make such a statement from my point of view?

Would I be given any credit and gravitas for sanity and correct thinking if I stated we need to introduce these radical bastards to the chair, rope, tree branch thingy? Were I to ACTUALLY make any real argument for that I would be vilified, I mean more than usual.

What if I said "we need a political realignment in this nation. We need a Republican and a Conservative Party and that's it?" Would legions follow my suggestion? Would I be a TV personality? Or would I be called all manner of neat stuff? Have it folks. You Progressives are on your last legs. Go ahead and defame me. Told ya before and I'll tell ya again, I wouldn't piss on ya if you were on fire. I digress.

The once great party of the everyman has been hijacked. The hijacking has its roots in the 1960's anti-war movement. Add in some Bill Ayers and Obama adviser types, Marxists, anarchists or Communists all, and shazam! The party of regular working folks has lost its way.

Reagan was one of the first to vocalize this phenomenon when he said "I didn't leave the Democrat Party - the Democrat Party left me." He was dead on and exceptionally prescient.

Then we saw further manifestations of this situation when the neo-con revolution swept Reagan to the Presidency in 1980 and reelected him in 1984. The Democrat Party had been infiltrated by radicals, Marxists and anarchists and the saner and more traditional Americans left the Democrats in droves.

And ever since the radicals and their ilk have become even more entrenched within Democrat Party politics. Nancy Pelosi IS NOT a traditional Democrat of the JFK mold. She's "moldy" alright, but that's just cause she's well past her sell by date. She needs to be retired and flying around on her own PERSONALLY OWNED private jet instead of trying to rape taxpayers.

Now Democrats face an even tougher decision and at an even more decisive crossroads. If they continue to go along with the Progressive agenda they will see their party cast aside into the trash heap of severely flawed ideologies, Maybe Maher is right. Maybe the Progressive radicals need to splinter off and become their own little separate and easily identifiable amalgam of malcontents, radicals, anarchists and Marxists.

Like sex offenders wearing an ankle bracelet, at least then we will know where these critters are at all times. Hey, now there's an idea! Ankle monitoring bracelets to keep track of 'em.

Now THAT is change we can believe in, right folks?

The word rape is a little strong too Jim in my view. I'm not saying you can't use it, but the DoD I think allowed Denny Hastert to use the same type of plane. It wasn't something that Pelosi requested. I think her husband Paul may own that private plane of theirs as well given that they file separate tax returns I assume.

Good article Jim. I know that Reagan left the party in the early 1960's and voted for Nixon against Kennedy if memory serves. So I respectfully disagree with President Reagan on the matter that the Democratic Party had left him. I can understand voting against Humphrey if you are uncomfortable with the programs of the Great Society, but voting against Kennedy made little sense given that he cut taxes at a great rate than Eisenhower and increased the defense budget.

I meant to say wrack and ruin -

What I recall from Maher's rant on the Conan Obrien show was that Obama should just shove the deal on healthcare reform down our throats. Seems I recall a comment from Jeff similar to that in the past. What I say to both of you is just try it. Interesting that people who claim their party is for the people want to shove something down the throats of the people. The country is based on majority rules. Sometimes I have to accept that when I think it's taking us to wrack and Snidely, good article

I appreciate your points Patricia and we largely agree, but whom did I attack Madam? Nancy Pelosi and Obama are radical Progressives. I DID NOT defame regular old run of the mill Dems. In fact I was expressing sympathy for them. I have no ill for Democrats, but I am no fan of Progressives and will not put on a smiley face for the sake of not stepping on anyone's toes. Hell, them guys don't tread lightly round me. Jeff is the only REAL Progressive who will engage me, and I respect him for that and for our "outside" politics friendship and mutual respect. I actually consider you, Ms. Patricia, a Democrat and NOT a Progressive. I am sorry if you felt I was defaming Democrats. I was not. But yep, if Progressives don't like my 100% factual characterizations of them maybe they need to slack up with the craziness. I call 'em likes I sees 'em, and Marxism is what it is - I needn't apologize for their deciding to be Marxist- they're adults, and as we all know ol' Whippy got no time for playing

This year (before 2010 elections) will prove to be a very interesting one and dems know it.

Anne's comment is right on. Progressives have a very delusional sense of "rightness" that transcends healthy thought processes. Their assumption that anyone with a differing opinion must be wrong (because they are so much smarter than the average human being), makes them impossible to reason with. Progressives are the most egocentric people on the face of the earth, and as a result will destroy themselves from within as their pride grows to unsustainable levels. Remember, pride always comes before a fall.

:) Short comment because all the others are so long!

Great article Snidely. Years ago I met a guy that thought he was Napolean. He really believed that... just like so many progressives believe that they and their ideology are the only answer for America and the problems that plague her. It is unfortunate and sad to see that what they call community organization for their causes is called radicalization when conservatives are politically active. The only thing that you will find on the ash heap of history is the delusional belief that it is ever okay to take from one and give to another through coercion.

I do agree that I disagree with some of the more progressive democratic platforms. Immigration, for example. I want these people sent back where they came from. (My husband's job went to Mexico, so I don't wanna hear they need work.) And after we send them all back, I want electrified fences along the border and automatic, sensor activated machine guns. There's too much concentration on programs for the poor and not enough on the "heading for the poorhouse" working class. As for Reagan, he went where the money was, who does he think he was kidding? And I'd like to see you rewrite this without resorting to personal attacks against individuals. You'd have a much more salient point.
