Project Runway's 6th season ended up being delayed for months as it encountered legal issues in the movement from Bravo to Lifetime network. Weinstein Co., the "Project Runway" producer, sold the rights to the Project Runway show to the Lifetime network after season five finished on Bravo. But then a lawsuit was filed by Bravo and that meant that the season couldn't begin until a settlement was reached last April.
But I eagerly tuned in as soon as the season began on the Lifetime network and enjoyed the sixth season immensely in Los Angeles instead of New York. The part of Project Runway that I love the most is how the designers make the most incredible fashion statements, and sometimes disasters, with so little money and time. It is amazing to me that these designers have this level of creativity to make a stunning outfit out of sometimes only newspaper on Project Runway.
The Project Runway winner, Irina is from New York, her parents were immigrants from the Republic of Georgia who located to Brooklyn. Irina's fashion line that she designed for the final Project Runway judging was very "city-centric' and chic, very New York. Heidi Klum had this to say about the Irina line, "It was sleek, modern, cohesive and told a story."
Irina had a very street smart and very wearable line of garments that revolved around a New York woman and a whole lot of black for Project Runway. Irina's designs were edgy, a little too edgy when a few pieces took on more of a "whip and bondage" personae. There was a lot of leather in her designers and this made for interesting looks with lots of structure and geometrics.
I thought that the toughness and, at times almost meanness, of her line really reflected Irina and her view of the world. She is a tough woman, she is strong and at times during this season in my opinion she was very mean. But Irina is also an incredibly talented designer that has now won season six of Project Runway.
I can't wait for January and the start of season seven of Project Runway!
