Projected Path of Hurricane Gustav 2008

Hurricane Gustav Still on Track to Strike New Orleans

Brad Sylvester
Hurricane Gustav 2008: Residents of the gulf coast and especially those of New Orleans are looking for the most up to date information to help them track Hurricane Gustav's projected path. Computer models current projections put Hurricane Gustav on course to make landfall very close to the city of New Orleans as a category 3 hurricane. This 2008 hurricane comes on the three-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's devastating landfall on New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina was also a category 3 storm. At the end of this article are links that provide up to date information on Hurricane Gustav's projected path and track.

Oil Platforms in Hurricane Gustav's Projected Path

Across the gulf, oil platforms and coastal refineries were making preparations for the storm. Many have suspended operations and evacuated personnel from sites in the projected path of Hurricane Gustav. The cessation of oil pumping operations and the possibility of oil platforms, pipelines, and refineries being damaged or shut down for a protracted period sent oil prices higher as Hurricane Gustav's path became a little clearer on Wednesday.

Governor Jindal's Recommendations to Prepare for Hurricane Gustav

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has advised residents to make emergency preparations now. Prudent preparations include arranging a means of evacuation and place to stay if Hurricane Gustav continues on its projected path toward New Orleans. Having food, water, and essential medications on hand for several days is also advised. For those planning to use their own vehicles to flee New Orleans ahead of Hurricane Gustav should that become necessary, topping off the gas tank early, like today, is strongly recommended.

Residents and indeed the whole country have seen how much damage a category 3 hurricane can do to a coastal city, especially one that is so close to sea level and subject to floods. Many repairs and upgrades have been made to the infrastructure of New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina inflicted it's damage on New Orleans, but no one should think that makes the city safe during a major hurricane. If Hurricane Gustav's track continues on toward New Orleans, evacuation is the only safe option.

I agree, my hat is definately off for those maritime workers. It wasn't very long ago, I was a skipper on a crewboat. Many a time, I road out storms backed up to a rig, at the wheel, wide open throttle, in reverse. We did this to cement ourselves to the side of the rig or a barg. Its kinda messed up when you have to get out on deck in rough seas. Although it was very dangerous and even tense at times, I loved my job and being out there. All those Seamen out there love it too, it's what defines them, and we wouldn't want it any other way. Good Luck Everyone!

My fiance works on the rivers on the barges. He is in houston now. Please everyone pray for these guys. They are the ones in charge of getting the gas all around the nation so all you have to do is put a nozzle in your car. Without them we have no gas and at the moment they are stuck cause of this hurricane so expect prices to rise. But in this line of work they are not allowed for anyreason to get off the boat. Not even for a hurricane. I fear for him and all the other tankerman. Please keep them in your thoughts. BE SAFE BOYS!

were from the Northshore. were evacuating Sat. you know, this is just cruel. we are trying out hardest. The reason hurricanes were never so bad before was because of our bayou's. we didn't care for them and so we lost the majority of them. Katrina gave us a great wake-up call and since then we have been trying so hard to remake out wonderful wetlands. but people, 3 years isn't long enough to gain back that much of our wetlands! I don't know what we did to deserve this, but New Orleans, and all of Louisiana, WE CAN MAKE IT THROUGH THIS! i know its only a cat. 1, but if it gains strength and speed going over the gulf, we will live. I know it. No, it isn't fare that this is happening but it's just mother nature at work. So good luck to everyone who Gustav may hit.I'm sure that I'll be needing it. =) smile. it may be the thing that helps you get through some more hard times.
