First, let me explain the situation. When I was young, around nine years old, I had a strange dream that to this day I am unable to explain. I dreamt that I was asleep and having a nightmare. I awoke screaming at the top of my lungs. Then I stopped and reached over the bar of my bunk bed, thinking my mother had come to see what was wrong. I was on the top bunk. As I reached over the bar, I suddenly felt a very strong almost tingling sensation. It was almost like a mixture between when your foot falls asleep and when you stick a finger in an electrical outlet. I jerked my hand back very quickly and took a bit to catch my breath from the fear. When I finally regained the courage to try reaching over again, I felt the sensation but was unable to pull back. I suddenly felt it throughout my entire body and then felt a spiraling sensation and landed on the floor with a thud, or so I thought. When I awoke for real, I was on the floor but I didn't have a scratch, carpet burn, or a sore spot at all and my mother was nowhere to be seen. She was still sound asleep. Eventually, I climbed back up the ladder of my bed and went back to sleep with no more problems the rest of the night. I can still feel the sensation though when I think about it.
Now that you know the story, how about the two theories behind it? I have told several people this story and none could explain it except two, but to me both of their explanations leave a lot to the imagination. That's where you can fill in the blanks for yourself. If I can't explain it, I can at least make an interesting thing for people to think about.
The first possible explanation for my experience is astral projection. I have a friend who claims he has had controlled astral projections, but that they can happen uncontrolled as well. I am told that if you are undisciplined, it can be filled with a lot of fear, much like my dream. I have also heard that it is common to look down at your own body while in an astral projection, and that when you reenter your body, it is a spiraling sensation. All of these things fit right into my dream, or whatever it was, but I remain uncertain whether that's what it is or not. Either way, my friend tells me that it is possible it may happen again someday, or that it may never happen. If this is the case, it is a little scary to think that something so uncontrolled and fearful could happen without my being able to expect it. To that end, I have researched astral projection and attempted to have a controlled experience but failed.
The second theory came from a friend of mine, who calls himself a minister but has not yet become one. He did not elaborate much upon his theory but said that it was a demonic attack. He said that he does not believe me to be possessed, but that God saved me when I was younger. He said that he himself has had a similar experience but was not as lucky as I and ended up being injured in the ordeal. He described it in much a similar way to that of my dream.
So now I wonder, are either of these explanations correct? Are either even partially correct? Or, could it be that it is something different still? Somehow, I'm not sure I will ever know the answer, so I will leave it to everyone's imagination to come to their own conclusion.
