Main Product Features
I own a lot of tablature books, and have a lot of printed out tabs, so it was important for me to find a music stand that could support even the heaviest book. I thought that the ProLine music stand would meet my needs in this regard, but as it turned out, it really did not. Sure, the ProLine stand is able to handle a slim tab book, but placing even three small tab books-or one medium sized tab book-will cause the stand to snap. Yes, that's right, the stand snaps with just a couple of pounds of weight on it, which is a huge drawback for many musicians.
So what is good about the ProLine stand? Well, the fact that it is lightweight is definitely a plus, especially for a traveling musician who can't be bothered to carry around a heavier conductor's stand. The stand also sets up very easily-you can fold it down in mere seconds-and is very thin. It is, in short, ideal for the musician who only needs to place a small tab book or a few sheets of paper on it.
The stand is also sharp looking and features a chrome black design. It is unlike standard conductor signs in that the back is not covered, but rather, is open which some will find to be very appealing It is also very easy to adjust, so if you need to quickly adjust it from one height to another, you'll have no problems. However, the fact that it breaks so easily holds this back from being a quality music stand, and most musicians will want to look elsewhere for a better, stronger stand.
Price: $14.99 at Musician's Friend
Overall: The ProLine music stand is a decent stand for those musicians who aren't expecting it to do much more than hold one book at a time. However, if you find yourself switching between tab books frequently, you will want to consider a heavier, slightly more expensive conductor's stand instead, as this won't meet your needs.
