There are many things to take into consideration when choosing a shoe. Color, heel length, and materials are all vital characteristics that will make or break a style. If your date is shorter than you are, you may want to choose a kitten heel or no heel at all. Likewise, if your date is much taller than you, a tall heel might be ideal. Either way, you'll want to choose something that's comfortable enough to get through pictures, dinner, and dancing. Brand names are important to some, while to others, they are not.
Lastly, price can be an important factor. This guide can help you on your way to picking the perfect shoe.
For a closed toe heel in many different colors, try the "Type Z Markita 2".
They have a 3 ¾ heel, and they're considered very stylish and comfortable. They are currently sold in 16 different colors, and Zappos.com offers free shipping both ways (in case you need to return them). These are priced around $80.
Another option to consider for a closed toe heel is the Gabriella Rocha "Mylie".
Priced usually around $60, these also come in many different colors and prints. I recommend these as shoes you can wear to prom, but also to other dressy occasions. This is a very versatile shoe that can go perfectly with the right dress.
For a strappy look, the options are almost limitless. But if you are looking for a comfortable, low heeled shoe, the Naturalizer "Prissy" is the way to go. I own this shoe in three different colors, and have worn them for Homecoming and Prom alike. They are extremely comfortable and look great with short dresses. I bought mine through Zappos.com and they came extremely fast. I love these shoes, and would definitely recommend them to anybody - whether they be tall or short in stature.
The "Type Z Coren" is a strappy, mid-length heel that comes in a variety of colors. It is truly a versatile shoe. They are beautifully designed, and continue to be beautiful for years to come. I love these shoes because they can be worn for Prom 2009, but they will surely transcend to Winter Ball next year, or a wedding next summer if you so choose. The price on these shoes vary by location - I've seen them as low as $60, but as high as $90. Most recently, I found them on Zappos.com for $67, with free shipping as per usual with Zappos.
Lastly, the Gabrielle Rocha "Kimberly" shoe is another low-heel that is well-crafted and looks great on. This is one addition I feel any woman should have in her collection because it can be dressy, and works well for anybody who considers themselves to be above average height. This shoe is available primarily through Zappos (my favorite place to buy a shoe). I've also seen it on Overstock.com, as well as 6pm.com.
The most important thing to consider when purchasing a shoe is how it will make you feel. If you want to feel comfortable, buy a brand such as Naturalizer who specializes in making pretty shoes that are comfortable all day long. If you want to feel sexy, pick something strappy and perhaps metallic. Sometimes, it's just important to find something that fits in the budget, and if that's the case, try to consider shipping and handling into the equation.
