Prom: 7 Tips for Young Ladies to Look Prom Perfect

Don't Let the Word Prom Scare You. It Should Be a Day to Remember

Zach Golt
Prom! The word is so exciting, so little, yet so grand. This word can be exciting and scary at the same time. The dilemmas are endless when it comes to planning for your prom. The questions rise: What shoes should you wear? Should you take a limo? Should you find a date, or go with a guy?

I am going to give you a few tips on how to solve the prom problems!

Prom tips for keeping it cool hours before the big day:

1. Make Appointments: The first thing that you need to do is find out where you want to get your hair and nails done because salons can book up quickly, especially the salons that will be booking every girl at your high school. Find a salon that caters to your hair and nail needs, so that you can go to one place for both - it saves time.

If you couldn't book appointment in time don't be alarmed. Go for the 30 minute prom nail & hair-do. Wearing your hair down is in after Lauren Conrads classmates aired it their prom on MTV. Put a nice clip in to hold your bangs back, and keep a hair tie in your clutch just in case. Natural nails are good to wear as well, just make sure you file them down and either paint them, or go neutral - don't leave specs from old nail polish on your nails because that will look tacky.

2. Find A Dress: Finding a dress is one of the second most important things on your to-do list. A great thing to keep in mind is that prom is flashy & classy. If you see a dress six months before your prom, and it's the dress of your dreams, on sale, buy it! There is nothing wrong with bargain shopping, just keep in mind that prom isn't the time to try out a new look, or to take up sewing with so little time. When you buy a dress for prom make sure that you can wear the dress again (cruise, premier, ball, rehearsal dinner, or night out with the girls). Prom dresses are pricy, and a waste of money if the only time you get to wear your dress is for pictures on one night.

3. Limo, or Not to Limo: A limo is a nice touch for prom, and if you get a group of twenty people to go in your limo it could be as cheap as twenty dollars - thirty dollars a person depending on how long you plan to keep the limo. If someone is willing to get a limo together for everyone it would be such a bad idea & if you have a day he might pay for you and your prom ticket!

4. Heels or Sandals: It is a bit odd to hear that sandals could be used at prom, but many girls are trying this new fad. A lot of girls are not use to wearing heels, and prom will be their first time. If you are one of these girls try getting your shoes at least a month in advance and walk around in them everyday so that you can get use to the heel. If you are really tall, just wear sandals. There are nice dress sandals that you can find at any store. Sandals are simple, easy, and very classy if you find the right ones.

5. Makeup: Most girls end up looking like clowns on their big day because they try makeup artists that are extreme, or they usually don't wear makeup. My tip is to keep it simple, and do it yourself. It saves you money and time. If one of your friends is great at putting a certain type of makeup, elect them to do yours. Simple and natural is in, so don't over cake yourself.

6. Tanning: Tanning is now part of hairs, nails and makeup. When you tan make sure you start a month in advance as well. The main thing that you want to avoid is turning red and sensitive the day of. By starting a month in advance you will avoid a lot of problems like deciding to spray tan and looking like a carrot for waiting so long. The only reason for you to get a spray tan is if you have been going to your spray-tanning salon for a long time and you know the results will not turn you orange. Key, do not try new things the week of day of - you don't need an allergic reaction on your big day.

I hope that these tips will help you girls get ready for a smooth day before the prom. Keep in mind to start preparing a month in advance for the big day!
