So prom season is quickly approaching. There is nothing more important to a teenager than looking perfect at their prom. From picking the perfect dress, shoes, accessories, make up and hair prom time can be hectic and crazy. Here are a few hair and make up tips to help alleviate some of the stress of prom.

1. When doing your make up choose one area of the face to highlight. A lot of times when girls do their make up they think that you have to put on dramatics on the eyes and lips and that is not true. Chose one of these areas to highlight. If you are going to highlight the lips bright is the way to go. Reds and pinks are a plus for a bright formal lip. Keep away from dark burgundy colors and browns. When highlighting the lip be sure to keep the eyes soft a simple. If you are planning to highlight the eyes, go all out. Eye liner, eye shadow and mascara, even a set of false lashes. Smokey eyes are very popular for prom, remember when doing smokey eyes to keep the lip soft and simple.

2. Remember your prom picture will follow you for a lifetime. When you are next in line to take that picture re apply your lipstick and or gloss. Just as it is your turn blot your oily spots or re powder your face to give your face a flawless look in your photo. It is wise to carry your powder in your purse or blotting tissues and frequently blot throughout the evening if you have oily skin.

3. When choosing eye shadow colors, do not match your eye shadow with the color of your dress. This is a mistake many people make. You don't want to seem over done in so much of the same color. If you are wearing bright colors, go for a softer look on the eyes and give the attention to the dress. If you have on duller colors go for a brighter look in the face for example if you have on a pastel purple dress go for a violet purple eye. When wearing black or white add some color to the face or go with earth/neutral tones.

4. If you are clueless as to how to apply make up or if you just aren't the make up type, consider having your make up professionally done. Not only will this eliminate any mistakes you might make yourself but it is sure to WOW your friends and/or date. Many make up counters at the mall department stores do a wonderful job and will give you a free make up session when you purchase a product.

5. Eyebrows. If you are going to have your eyebrows done do not get them done the day of the prom. Many girls will need to have their eyebrows and upper lip tweezed, waxed or threaded. Do not do this the day of the prom as it will give the face a flushed pink look. The pulling of the hairs and skin tends to always leave the skin irritated creating redness. This can last for up to 24 hours in some people. If you must have your eyebrows and/or upper lip tweezed, waxed or threaded always do this 24 hours in advance of the big event to give the redness a chance to subside.

6. One of the most popular looks for prom since the beginning of time has been the updo. Arranging curls in such a way that create a pleasing look can be considered an updo. The messy updo is good in so many ways because you can take tight or loose curls and by pinning them create a messy/classy look for prom. Pinned up ringlets create a beautiful flowing look for prom. This updo may require the assistance of a friend/family member or professional stylist. When possible you want to create an updo on hair that is not freshly washed as slightly dirty hair will hold curls better.

7. Trying out different hairstyles before the prom can have its many benefits. What's worse than getting ready for prom and not knowing exactly what you want to do. Telling the stylist to do what ever and then hating the end result. In the weeks before prom start playing around with different things, updo's, side swept bangs, low ponytails see what looks good to you. Check out different styles virtually to see what you like.

8. You should have your hair done the morning of the prom, this will ensure that your style doesn't fall or come undone before the main event. If scheduling a hair appointment you will want to make sure that you get your appointment scheduled at least a month and a half in advance because stylist usually begin getting booked up very quickly. You should take a shower if possible before your appointment so that any moisture or humidity will not ruin your style. Wear a button down shirt or something similar to your appointment so that when you arrive home to put your dress on you do not have to pull something over your hair. Be sure to take a photo of the hairstyle to the salon with you. Make sure to communicate with the stylist so that there is no misunderstandings.

9. Hair done at home? If you are having your hair done at home straightening hair will make the styling easier. This season the style is light and tight. Parting your hair on top of your head can "glam" up any ordinary style. To eliminate frizz once the hair is already dry, run a nickle size of conditioner through it. It works well and will not leave your hair crispy or hard like mouse or hairspray. Be sure not to wash your hair the day of styling as slightly dirty hair holds better curl.

10. Last but not least, no matter what happens have fun. You have spent so much time to make all things perfect for this night, don't let a loose curl or a smudged lip prevent you from having the time of your life. Be sure to tell everyone helping you if you like or dislike something. Communication is going to be key in making sure that everything is how you want it.
