Prom in Nashville? The Slacker's Guide to Prom Preparations

Chris Sabanos
Well gentlemen, it's almost prom season. This means you will likely be responsible for finding a ride, a tux, and a place to eat. Here's a little help from a guy who half assed it. Hopefully you will look cool without having to dress a fool; Which is how I got away with no limo and no dinner reservations. Lucky for you, Nashville has everything you will need in a reasonably centralized area.

First, let's work on a ride. You know at least 73% of the girls you are considering taking will be expecting you to roll up in a limo. Figure out which of your friends you trust will pay up and help with the cost. After you know how many people you will be riding with, find an extra couple or even two couples to use as backups. Someone will fall short.

Now that you have your crew, take the initiative to call limo companies. Don't trust that your friend who is on the baseball team and juggling three girlfriends is going to get around to it. Here is a small list of companies here in the Nashville area:

Silver Oak Transportation
Matchless Limousine Service (my personal favorite with awesome vintage cars)
Signature Limousine Service
First Impression Limousine Nashville
Broadway Limos LLC
Now onto the tux. I tend to be a little out there so I went to a costume shop for mine and highly recommend it if you like the shock and awe method. If you are more of the classic tux type, here are a few ideas for you:

Street Tuxedo inc - 615.386.0500
American Tuxedo & Bridal Frml
Men's Wearhouse
After Hours By Mitchell's -615.327.4050
K&G Fashion Superstore -866.514.3031
Sam Meyers Formal Wear -615.329.3456
Now we come to food. I love food. There are many great restaurants in Nashville. I have worked at and quit/been fired from many of them! A few that are great for handling larger parties and have great food at a reasonable price are:

Rumba -Rum bar and Satay Grill- Great food with inspirations from around the equator and great staff 615.321.1350 (no hard feelings guys)
Bound'ry *-Global Cuisine meets New South
Sambuca *-Dinner. Drinks. Live music- Their very eclectic menu is sure to please all
Cha Cha *-Spanish Mediterranean tapas
Watermark -Restaurant- Their ever-changing Nuevo-classic menu will have you dying for more
Jimmy Kelly's -Steakhouse- A Nashville Dining Tradition since 1934
F. Scott's *-Restaurant. Jazz Bar
Germantown Café -Neighborhood restaurant with an amazing view of downtown
MAFIAoZA'S *-Pizzeria & Neighborhood Pub
Tin Angel -An American Bistro
I must make one disclaimer. TIP YOUR SERVER!! If you go in with a large party, chances are they will auto-grat you, but this is typically only 18%. That is NOT a good tip. Most GOOD servers expect at least 21%.

*Offer Catering from their web-site.
