Prom Night Traditions Shared Around the Map

RONYAE
Prom night has been considered as one of life's special moments; and has been claimed to be the most important for our teenagers. And regardless of the region, the special night share many traditions all over the globe.

Unlike some, I've had the pleasure to experience and/or witness prom night traditions in both the north and the deep-very deep, south. And believe it or not, some of the traditions in both areas definitely supports the fact that all participants have a theme for the special occasion. When I graduated from Central High School in 1990, our theme for Prom was "Here and Now". And now thinking back, I realize how our class was definitely living for the moment! We were ready to take on the world, with fresh ideas and goals to make a change in the world.

But enough about me and my 'old school' class of 1990.

Being a time, all around the globe, when our teenagers are coming into that age where they receive their very own license to drive, offers many of them to either get rental cars or drive their parents' automobile for Prom Night; and then there are some who are fortunate enough to have limousines chauffer them to their prom.

Of course the biggest tradition that is shared is the time spent in preparing for prom: not only getting the rides together, or the gear to wear, but the time spent making plans for the after party, and special senior class trips that occurs that following day. For our prom, we didn't actually have an after party, but we all met up at Belle Isle Park (a historical park in Detroit), and just laughed, reminisced over the night's events, had a little too much to drink, and we all ended up falling asleep in our cars until that next morning. Needless to say, we almost missed our senior trip to Cedar Point that next morning! LOL.

But just before the actual event, the participants have to start the day off early, in order to take pictures and stop by family members' homes in order to strut their stuff. After all, this is the time where teenagers are introduced to wearing formal attire. And like I said, it's a very special moment and time for graduating seniors, who are now going to be entering their adult lives. Who doesn't like to show off their spanking new, adorable dress-wear?

But before I end this article, I would like to add that there is definitely a strong suggestion for safety around this time of the year. Knowing that some of the prom participants will be drinking, it's especially pertinent to be on watch for other motorists while on these streets/roads and/or highways. From one 'prom-nighter' to the next: Stay Safe and Have Fun! You only have one special prom, and that should be yours-drama free, of course!
